How easy was it to get at?

Do I need a Cirque du Soleil contortionist to disconnect it or is there an easy panel to remove?

I wouldn't recommend doing it just to do that. If you're already at the stage of modding and its right there, then go after it. It's far easier and quicker to just disconnect the enhancer ecu on the right endcap of the dash.

I still have no codes or light from disconnecting mine.

But how does it get the rpm info? What delivers the command from the dealer tool for ASC to STFU?

CAN tells the ASC Ecu what it needs, the ASC Ecu plays the mp3 file, and the speaker is plugged into the ASC Ecu’s headphone Jack.

I like the idea of throwing a switch (or rheostat) on the ground wire of the speaker, that will probably leave the ECU blissfully unaware.

Yup, that's what I was thinking.
So once we sniff which CAN message is sent to the ASC by the dealer tool, we should be able to figure out a way to send it DIY.

I figure once an aftermarket catback is available then it will be turned back off, but with the stock exhaust, its just too quiet.

Anyone else notice the tire noise on the 18" Limited stock setup vs engine sound?
I had my Winters put on for delivery so I haven't driven on the 18s yet. But my Stinger came with the Pilot Sport 4, and I thought they were pretty quiet... The Pilot Sport A/S 3+ that I eventually switched to were louder. I think the tone/type of tire noise varies by car... What seems loud in one may blend in like white noise in another. The ASC is louder than the CrossClimate2 that I have for my Winters.

I had my ASC turned off today, and the engine seems too quiet even with my relatively quiet Winter tires. However, I'm still staying under 4000 RPM so I'll wait until I can hear the full range of sound.

I'm normally not a fan of fake engine noise, but in this case Subaru seems to have done a good job. The placement of the speaker helps the imaging of the sound, and it seems relatively in sync with the throttle... Both of which were issues that I've experienced in the past.

Can any 1st-gen owners comment on whether ASC sounds "better" or offers any advantages over the tube? The comparisons I've heard so far make it sound relatively high-pitched and artificial.

it's really quite mild under 4k rpms, not sure if you had the engine in the upper rpm range yet

well if this is how they did it that's a good idea as the daily under 4,000 drives it's not intrusive. I have hit 5,000 rpm ish i'm just under 200 miles still breaking in so i'm trying to be good. I was really considering them having it turned off before picking it up but didnt go through with it.
