I really like it, but obviously am never going to own one :P Hope I get to sit in one someday, maybe even drive it (is that asking for too much?). Basically a slightly more sane and analog Valkyrie.

Boundary layer suction is really clever. The claim about 10kg for the fan and all the ducts and flaps seems crazy, I want to see what they did to make that happen.

I like that they also sneakily made it a mild hybrid without saying it. 30hp 48V starter generator with push to pass lol. I'm guessing there's a small lithium titanate battery for that.

If only there were something like this with a more modest cylinder count and price tag...

Disappointed that the author credited Murray with inventing fan blown aero when Jim Hall's Chaparral predated the Brabham BT46B "fan car" by years.

Reading this, I immediately thought of that car:

The new version does look a "little" bit better than an old rooftop air conditioned unit now though.

I thought you guys were talking about this Gordon Murray's car. Then I read "fan". Im interested to see if this thing will be legal. Blowing rocks on windscreens and all.

He probably knew about it, considering who he was and what he needed to know, and how much earlier the other car had been raced. Moreover, he also developed a box style version of the BT46 which copied the other car. He may have pioneered the use for F1 or pioneered the use of a secondary set of gears tied to the motor versus using a separate motor, but his ideas appear to be mostly copied-evolutions of Hall’s ideas.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brabham_BT46

Then there was this:

Quote:
Hall's abilities drew international attention at the 1960 United States Grand Prix at Riverside. Driving his own already-past-its-prime Lotus-Climax, he ran a surprising fifth for much of the race until the differential started to give way a few laps from the end. Of Hall's run, Competition Press (now Autoweek) wrote, “It looks as if Texas has another international caliber driver ready to take Carroll Shelby’s place now that Shelby has announced his retirement.”
Quote:
Although it was quickly banned, the 2J “vacuum cleaner” concept was copied eight years later by Brabham Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray who figured out a way to circumvent the rules.

Boundary layer suction and the suction fan are very different though...

The suction fan on the Chaparall works with low clearance side skirts to produce low static pressure under the car. That gives constant downforce.

The T50 has a normal underbody venturi and diffuser with some flaps for variable geometry, but the suction fan prevents the diffuser from stalling. You need much less fan power to achieve that, but you have speed dependent downforce just like a normal car.

Yeah, I've noticed that with mum's Yaris.

C'mon!! That's a little bit funny isn't it?

...that rich car investors don't drive their cars anyways, so why not put a manual?
