IPod USB connectivity issues

Just picked up my GR86. I have an IPOD Nano for my music and I’m trying to hook it up via USB.

The car does not recognize the device.

I can connect via AUX but can only navigate through music on the IPOD (not desirable).

I can connect via Bluetooth but if I am not mistaken, only one Bluetooth advice can be used at a time, so it’s also not desirable either.

Any idea on a fix to have it connect via USB? If it works, can you navigate song selection through the car?

My nano also didn't work on my friend's 2017 BRZ, but iPhones did. I think it may have something to do with the protocol it's using, not certain. Bluetooth worked but was very choppy

Alas, only the last gen iPod touch is supported. Now that’s not really an iPod right?
I was very disappointed, seeing ‘iPod’ in the menu got my hopes up that my actual iPods would work.
