Nah, just passed down.

Also played with toy cars from some brand similar to Hot Wheels but from like the 50s or 60s. Don't remember the name but my dad had them in a red collector box thingy.

Ooooh thanks! I've thought about trying to remember what brand they were. Probably been a couple decades since I played with them now.

They were pretty cool cars, to be honest. I think some of them were cooler than my Hot Wheels, even.

They're also how I was introduced to the Datsun's because I think they were one of my dad's favorites.

Yep. And they were pretty fun too. Nothing wrong with handmedown toys. Hope my parents kept them somewhere through our moves. Not sure where they are at this point..

Now, THAT reminds me of a childhood story.

At about 10 years old, my neighboring farm friend (Jimmy) and I decided to build a 2 story log house for a school art project.

We started with a 3x4' piece of plywood for a base. We sat in the woods for many of hour hand whittling out logs for our house. Yep, each one was custom fit and we built the whole thing without and nails or glue.

His father transported our house to school when it was completed in his pickup truck. We won first prize. The school kept it on display for many years.

Yep, my friend, Jimmy, was born and raised in a house on a farm without central heat or running water. He got a scholarship to Harvard at age 16, graduated with a PhD and went on to UC Berkeley for post doc studies. He married Cyrus Eaton's granddaughter and wound up in jail for a spell for protesting the Vietnam war. That's when we parted ways.

THE END

Aaaah yes! I still remember cuts from the sharp edges and corners of the original erector set. Of course I also remember when the pieces of "Mr. Potatohead" had sharp plastic spikes so you could stick them in a real potato... and you did not have to sign a legal release to buy a bicycle.

Plugged it into Google English to Canadian translator.....

"So you could wear it ouver your flat brimmed basebaull caup while driving your Subauru aund vauping"

Pretty close...

In all seriousness, I'm usually pretty good at coming close to mimicking different accents, but I just can NOT get Canadian sounds (meaning, to me, Kingston, ON, which is where I've spent the most time) down. The whole "add 'eh' after every other word" is just stupid... that's not real. I'm getting used to saying "in hospital," instead of "in the hospital," "pasta" with an "a" as in "man," "going to university" or "in university" instead of "going to college" or "in college," "Zed" instead of "Zee," etc... but there's a roundness to the pronunciation of "o" as in "hot" that I just can NOT get... it's so subtle. Kind of a cross between a British-sounding "Hawt" and 'Merican "Haht." ... wish I could get it right. Love dialects/regional accents, and have always been very interested in how/why the evolve.
