I took my car to my local Subaru dealer to get the GPS SD card and new bracket installed per the TSB and forgot to tell them about my ACT 6 puck. They asked me what clutch was in it and what other plans I had for it. I told them I was installing a turbo kit that weekend, and they were all excited and wanted me to bring it back up to show it to them. I still doubt they would want to do warranty work on the engine if I show back up there now.

For the record i set up the customer with 3 boost settings, 3-4psi, 8-9psi and 11-12psi.

Personally 8PSI does the trick with this kit.

The additional supporting mods on this car works very well with the higher boost level

There was a request via PM to say a bit more about the symptoms of this problem and how they presented in my particular BRZ.

Before I had the N/A Visconti tune, my idle would fluctuate a bit while the car was warm after a couple thousand miles. Then after that, with the Visconti tune and later others, everything was rock-solid. With E-85, there was a little bit of unsteadiness in idle on maybe 1 occasion but I think that there was a bit of gasoline in that tank too.

Fast forward to the turbo install, it was in the middle of winter and everything was pretty cool out, and there weren't any issues for about 2 weeks. Things worked perfectly. Then, I had a CEL pop up. P000B became routine, usually with C1201 and P0017 P0019. Gradually, more and more DTC and CELs popped up.

Paul tried ROM after ROM, and I later involved Visconti, to see if the issue was tune related. Nothing really worked. WORKS checked the install twice and did a boost/vacuum test, no issues.

Eventually, the idle stall/shudder issue appeared and started getting worse. I had idle stalls while the car was in motion. Not fun! Eventually it started misfiring and throwing P219A. I had the front O2 sensor replaced to no avail, the issues continued and persisted. The worsening of the DTCs/CELs all occurred over the period of about 2 months.

It's clear the issue pre-existed the kit, I had the idle issues from the beginning.

Here is what Livermore reported from the warranty service invoice. This is just a reference so you guys know what was done in case you have the same problem:

"A client reports that the engine light is on. Check and advise. Found Code P0017 CEL.

44 WS
1 10921AA230 Valve Ay Oil Cont
3 806944060 O Ring 44.0x2.6
3 16677AA040 Ring Back Up

Tech verified concern. Tech found check engine light on for code P0014 and P0017 camshaft position over-advanced. Tech found service bulletin for problem. Tech performed all needed tests. Tech found valve failing on right side. Tech replace right side valve as needed and all O rings. No other comments at this time, Thanks!

B Perform ECM Reprogramming per Subaru of America
-WQC30 Perform ECM Reprogramming per SOA and Customer. "

No charge. Forgive my newbness but it looks like they replaced the OCV rather than the cam angle sensor or is that the same thing?

Oh, and one piece of advice: get all your warranty work and inspections taken care of before going F/I. You might not be able to find a mod-friendly dealer like I did!

John,

Was the client with the three boost levels running stock injectors or an upgraded kit?

i doubt somebody would go to 12psi with stock injectors, I'm sure @Visconti would upgrade is FP and injectors.

These are just assumptions though

My impression was that the 12 psi figure was with upgraded injectors and upgraded fuel pump, and possibly E-85, but @Visconti can chime in.

Quick update. Put another 250 miles on the car in 80 F+ ambient temps with lots of stop and go traffic and some WOT mixed in. I'm testing Paul & Ross @ AVO's "Stage 1E with raised idle" map of the JA01C ROM revision and everything is rock solid. No DTCs or CELs, so I am very happy. Took a bunch of logs, didn't see anything glaring but we'll see.

I swear still sense a little idle "vagueness" every now and then, though the idle does not fluctuate whatsoever and feels safe, it's nothing like the full-on shudder and stall from before...could just be the raised idle or a characteristic of the engine. Or I could just be paranoid. Probably the latter.

In any case, I'm having a blast with the kit and it's awesome not worrying about the car throwing CELs. @Visconti is travelling but when he gets the chance I'm going to try out his JA01C ROM and take some logs.

Now I need to save up for the AVO 7 psi actuator, SIR injectors, Visconti's fuel pump, flex fuel, EBC, and E-85... better start saving those pennies. Gonna need a BBK too

Edit: And after reading @Silverdub 's thread looks like a clutch should be next in line!
