I'm not happy with what my dealer wants to put in new plugs and a new serpentine belt (full price as if the engine wasn't going to be out and taken apart) so was considering heading up that way. Maybe Rutland or Burlington Subaru because they've both treated me nicely in the past.

Oh, fair enough. Burlington Subaru is scheduling out into October, so it'd be quite a wait

I haven't notice a difference with driving after the change. The car moves and sounds the same.

Perhaps I'm just naive but I'm not sure why this would be an issue. We're talking about a factory recall, not a warranty repair.

I actually have an appointment to bring my car to Johnston's Toyota (formally Scion) in Middletown NY next weekend (March 2nd). And we'll see what happens. My car is still technically street registered but it's basically a track day special at this point, and is usually on a trailer when not on a race track. Suspension, brakes, header, tune, roll cage, race seats, harness, quick release wheel--the works. There's no point trying to hide what it is, and what it isn't.

If it's a problem, I'll let everybody know.

FWIW, I dropped the car off today. They asked me for a list of mods. I just laughed and asked, "Are you kidding?" My car was still idling in the garage and you could clearly hear it. She specifically asked about the ECU and I told her yes, it has a custom tune from Moto-East as the car is pretty much an HPDE toy. But it didn't sound like it would be a problem. I was originally told it would take a week but they told me they were taking a bit longer on average. I'll check in again when I get the car back.

I doubt it. One of the owners of Johnstons is a racer himself and used to drive in Chumpcar (now Champcar Endurance series). He has his own track prepped FRS. I never brought the car back there for any service or warranty work (short of a dead battery 3 years ago). Mainly because it's just too far to go.

Either way, as soon as they're done, the car goes back to AZP for the usual pre-season prep and inspections.

So the car is done. I have not picked it up yet, but I'm told they took it out for a test drive and everything is running well.

They also called me and asked how I wanted to handle the coolant and oil as they intended to refill with stock Toyota sourced fluids now that the work was done, and they were concerned that if I took the car out and started hammering around on track that they wouldn't be sufficient.

I told them not to worry as the car was going down for a complete flush at AZP anyway but it certainly left me with a good feeling that they would even be cognizant and concerned over something like this. And I think it shows that they're thinking well beyond a baseline level.

I bought the car at Johnston's when it was still a Scion dealer and I've only brought it back once for service but I highly recommend them. I don't want to give them a label such as "mod-friendly" when it may not be accurate, pending the specific circumstances. But I've purchased two cars from them and they've always taken good care of me.

If there's anything worth reporting about the work they did, I'll follow up.

Publication came out yesterday about J02 recall issues. Citing another thread here. Thought you all may want to check it out.

It describes the reason I chose NOT to have the recall done.
