6AT (+) Forced Induction

Is there any feedback on how well this 6AT handles more power? I'm not familiar with this 6AT aside from the fact it was derived from the 8spd Lexus IS F.

I'm interested in a few FI kits popping up, namely the HKS unit here.

Phil is running the Accelerated turbo kit and P&L is running their kit both on autos. Both pushing more whp than the HKS kit i believe.

Apparently that was a rumor that turned out to be not true. Sorry to disappoint.

Ah, bummer. well nevertheless hoping this 6AT was designed to handle to some added power.

My research indicates that the 6AT in the 86 is based on the lightweight A960E from the 204bhp/186lb tq IS250. The IS350 requires the stronger A760E trans to handle it's 300bhp and 277lb tq.

It's Relevant to the topic BC the kit was Developed, Tuned, and is being driven on a Auto Trans 6AT BRZ. LOL

It would depend heavily on what the transmission (stock) can handle. As P&L has shown, they are running FI with an auto transmission which actually has a lot of benefits.

However, assuming that the capacity of the transmission does become an issue... there are always things that can be done.

Raybestos friction plates
Modified valve body
Transmission oil cooler

The list can go on. Either way, heat is what kills an auto transmission. Keeping the fluid in the operating temperature is essential.

To give you an example. The U241E used in the scion tC has a capacity of about 250 lb.ft of torque before problems occur. Someone has had a U241E trans built by Level Ten to support up to 500 lb.ft of torque.

A Trans cooler is probably a given even on track driven stock cars. I'm just hoping a tear down rebuild will not be needed for FI. There are other issues involved when beefing up an otherwise stock Trans I wouldn't be interested in pursuing (i.e. Upgrade valve body). Hoping for the best though

Honestly, I doubt that it will be needed. Keep in mind the U241E was used in a variety of cars that were not exactly "performance" oriented. The transmission in the 86 is definitely performance oriented much more than the U241E. On that note, it will have a higher capacity.

But keep in mind that even with manual cars, the transmissions have their limit as well. Take a quick browse on NASIOC and they'll have people swapping transmissions and things like that.

Car components are simply not Over-Engineered like they used to be.

That is sooo true. If we're lucky we get ~25% design overkill and can sometimes stretch it to ~50% without dramatically reducing service life. I'm pushing 250wtq through a U241E and it's still good after 3 years. A buddy of mine tried pushing 300wtq through his and killed it within 2 months. I don't know of anyone who was actually satisfied with their "built" U241E and P-Tuning told me horror stories about the ones they've seen.

Check out the xB2 forums on scionlife. There is a guy with a U241E rated for 500 wtq. Full build by Level ten.
