Honda/Acura NSX
I think some might cross shop these two cars.

A well maintained proper nsx is still significantly more expensive.
Most people who buy the FR-S/BRZ couldn't find a loan for an NSX. NSX is $25K-$35k for a solid 1991-96 NSX is $35K-$50K for a solid NA2 1997-2001 NSX is $50K-$75K for a clean low mile 2002+ A 60K service on an NSX costs $2000. A replacement clutch costs, at minimum, without labor, $1200. A replacement fender is $600 used. Really they are different classes. PS my dream car is a MCBP/Tan 97-99 6 speed. Even have a little fund started for it.

It's close when you consider how much car you get for your money. Someone looking for a weekend track car may consider both. Besides, it's not like anything on the NSX is difficult to maintain, fix, or replace; it shares parts from many other hondas. That brake job you mentioned? I can fit the kit on my accord.
Bodywork is always expensive, you just gave me $100 less than what I was just quoted for my rear quarter panel. Unless you're taking about the front fender, which costs $290 here. As to the clutch... if you can't afford that then forget about the 86 lol.

I agree that an early NA1 is a bargain for the money, and that they have similar performance as well, but I really don't think people will cross shop these cars.
The NSX does not share many parts with other Hondas. At most, the brakes are close to the Legend, and maybe some clips/trim retainers, but the rest of the car is one off. A similar priced NSX is 20 years old as well.

For me the NSX is just too old. We're talking about a car which was designed 30+ years ago. Chassis technology and car development has come a long way. The S2000 which retailed at a fraction of the price was faster around some circuits and was in many ways more advanced then the first VTEC car.
It's still a great car and deserves it's legendary status, but I want a car I can drive 40k miles a year if I feel like it without a care in the world or worrying about what the previous 10 owners did to it. |

I'm surprised anyone would compare a BRZ to an NSX.
The BRZ is a nice car, but the NSX was considered back in 1991 when it was introduced as a reliable alternative to a Ferrari. Aluminum body...aluminum chassis components... titanium rods...mid engine design...the NSX is perhaps the best car ever built in Japan. Period. |

If I wanted a weekend/track car that was MR, at the BRZ price point, I would go with a used Boxster or Elise.
I wouldn't dismiss it's iconic stature, but if I wanted something that was 20 yrs old, not cheap, and different, I'd try and pick up an Integrale... if that can be done in the States :-s

I love the NSX but for myself and many others it's just not an option. I need a daily driver even though I work from home and don't drive that much. Plus the upkeep cost on an NSX at this point has to be pretty high.

I've never driven an NSX, but I'd imagine you really only get to "use" 1st, 2nd, maybe 3rd in VTEC (assuming 5-spd. 6-spd has shorter gearing, so maybe 4th in VTEC) before accumulating points on your license. I wonder how they compare for street driving through the twisties? |
