So glad to hear everyone was OK.

Is it just me or does it always seem that things like this happen when the car is new? MomHawk had only had her '05 Mustang for two days when some guy on a Harley cut a corner too close at a stoplight (she was stopped) and drug his left peg from the middle of the front bumper to the edge at about 10MPH before he managed to stop. She said it was just sickening to listen to when it happened. Cost the guy $500 to replace and paint the bumper cover. She hasn't even had a close call since.
just read that post, some people SERIOUSLY needs to lose their license

Sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear your wife and friends weren't injured. That is what's really important at the end of the day. As painful as it may be, it's just a car. Which hopefully will get fixed like new ASAP!

Thank you everyone for your support. I am glad everyone was fine. That is the most important thing! I am sure it was scary to hit a huge tire chunk! It marked 3/4 of the underside of the front bumper!

I am looking into if "no fault" tire hitting will raise my premium. Thanks.

I drive behind trucks at a safe distance. I hate flying rocks!

Sorry about what happened to you car. No chance of finding that truck? I once drove on that piece of I-5 and the axle of a truck trailer broke right in front of me. Pieces of metal flew around my car, the trailer beached and was dragged with flamboyant sparks. So lucky not being hit. 1 or 2 second before it broke, I saw a small piece like a rock flew by me and I thought I was lucky not getting chipped, then....

I retired many years ago as an automobile insurance claims manager. If the tire tread was laying still in the roadway and your wife hit it, it would be considered a collision loss. If it was rolling or moving it would be covered by your comprehensive insurance coverage. I don't know of any insurance company that would raise your rates because of a comprehensive claim. Double check with your agent.

Wow, I always fear of something like that happening to me. Sucks to see it happen to anyone.

Rear bumper is like $300-$350, I believe.

Yeah I feel your pain. Those retreads do massive damage. Mines been in the shop all week and will hopefully get it back early next week. Mine is covered under comprehensive. Lucky for me a friend was following behind and witnessed it. Unlucky for him it ate his new Camry's bumper when it came out from under mine.

Ouch that one took a hit also! Sorry that happened to you too!

Just spoke with several different people at geico. 4 out of 5 were really helpful.
In fact that last girl answered the phone "How can I give you perfect 10 service today?" Sounded nice.

Anyway, they are listing my clam as a "no fault" claim. I have a $200 deductible and 50$ per day rental coverage, so that's not bad. I will update with details about how the auto body shop experience goes....

Isnt that considered a no fault accident?

FUCK em truck drivers. They need to pay for the repairs.

I'm so glad Im getting a Blackvue cam so I can record incidents like these should it happen to me and get their license plate info.

They use those whatever treads to lower cost but do they even realize that they are making everyone else pay for repairs when accidents come involving their stupid tires?

Dude, I was driving a couple of weeks ago, truck driver cut me off and changed into my lane. So I slowed down to stay away from it but I couldn't change lanes because of trafffic. I was more than 1000ft and boom, cracked windshield from rocks flying my way.

FU truck drivers!

But luckily I had it repaired through my insurance.

I was driving down the local toll road, when a truckers front side hood mirror came flying off. Luckily this car handles well at 80 mph and I was able to avoid it Flying in to my hood/windshield. My adrenaline was pumping with road rage and shock. End of the day, what person thinks their mirror is going to fly off. This trucker even laid on his horn to get everyones attention. If he wouldnt have sounded that horn, that mirror would have met new paint. Bullet dodged...

No question, freight should go by train and barge, cars on highways. Local delivery trucks should go by designated surface streets on non-retreaded tires.
