Hack BRZ/FRS ECU?

I was looking into tuning my engine soon and was pretty surprised to find these 800$ computer chips that you just plug into the ecu, i was wondering if anyone has tried to tune the ECU successfully just using an OBD2 plug. I'm pretty decent with computers but cant seem to find any specific thread to manually tune the engine. is this illegal or something?

Hey its Friday i will play nice. Do some research on OFT (Open Flash Tablet) and Ecutek. These are the two most popular tuning options for the FRS/BRZ/GT86. See whatever one fits the criteria of things you want in a tuning solution. Check the Software Tuning section and do some reading http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=88

Totally illegal, no one has ever done anything like this, and the function of this site never works................

Have a read here general info on flashing ecu
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68328

then here tune systems
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106068

The ecu is a microcontroller unit access to the rom\flash\tune area is protected by a seed key chalenge alogrythym. Luckly tune systems above have cracked this.

The ecu is programmed in assembler speciffic to the microcontroller chip, its not like working in windows gui, very low level instruction code in hex.

see post here, this is the level your working at with ecu programming
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...6&postcount=14

Then you need to understand engine tuning

Just a PSA, being pretty good with computers doesn't mean you'll be good at tuning an engine. You really need to know what you're doing or you can easily damage (or blow) the engine.
