I'm working on a much better kit.. different everything - except the tuning.

If your actually interested in doing something I wouldn't have a problem working with you again

Welcome back.
Once the fuel line issue was resolved I've had no problems with the hardware I got from john. A little more work than I would have liked, but its the price you pay jumping in early.

John

By different everything do you mean a different sensor / hardware ? Maybe the new zetronix line ?

I could be wrong too but this actually goes against the subaru knock control strategy documentation I've read thus far. It either doesn't move at all because there is no knock or it has been intentionally bypassed?

I'll have to double check with the dev guys at EcuTek but I'm under the impression that the IAM can't go up or down if the 'increment amount' is @ 0

that's not correct. i found that to behave weirdly in my experimentation with it though. even with the increment amount set at 0 (as stock) the iam can definitely go up and down. changing it does effect the step size though.

the easy way to disable the iam is to ensure that the current applied advance value is never greater than 3.9 degrees, as this is one of the conditions to entering rough correction mode. of course this can be accomplished by stuffing timing in the base map and reducing values in the advance map to achieve the same total timing.

it is widely accepted that this is a bad idea, at least from what i've read.

I'm going to try and confirm that with the EcuTek guys..

How much did you see the IAM changing with the default values?

in increments as low as 0.02 was the smallest i've seen. it could actually be smaller and be stepping through the other values without me seeing it though, as i don't poll the iam often.

John, with the new stuff approach from Ecutek is there any chance that we will get to see the ECU remembering the last map we used. This would be really good if it could be done.

Glad to see you back on here and just remember to try and play nice with the others cos some of us miss you

We have had a lot of comments on this and it is noted. It will be looked at going forward as we are very clear it is a popular request.

And yes John. Please play nice!

Thanks!

Phil at EcuTek said there's a few more things he wants to try out in regards to the map switching. It's been a while since he's looked at it but we both agreed that a fresh look at the problem is all that's really needed, he's pretty sure he'll get it sorted.
