Just to revive this thread I am going to go test drive one this weekend. The local dealer has one on the lot. Just something about it resonates with.

I've never driven a truly good FWD car. The best was an Integra LS, and I did manage to oversteer and even spin. I didn't enjoy that car at all.

Hot hatches are about making a practical car fun, so if that's what you need then go for it. Do yourself a favor and check the other brands though. I have not driven the new Veloster, but the last gen Veloster Turbo was pretty lame. I've autocrossed most of them and consider the Focus ST to be the best.

The N is on a completely different level. Most people put this as more fun to drive hatch vs the type R but the type R is the better performing car. For about 28k you get alot bang for your buck. Driven an ST 2016 and it was fun. As a daily my frs in it's current state can be a bit much for daily driving. Thinking of going back to stock exhaust to tame that down a bit. You kinda get beaten up a bit on long drives in this car. So we shall see.

Sounds like you need to drive more good FWD cars.

I thought the Focus ST was crap. As for the Fiats 500s, tons of fun, but they don't actually handle well.

The Focus ST isn't a good FWD car imo. I've never liked it from the get-go. It's bloated (literally 500 lbs more than the Fiesta ST), open diff, somehow converts noise into torque steer and tire spin but forgets to actually move the car forward etc.

-CTR
-Fiesta ST
-Veloster N
-10th Gen Si
-MS3
-LNF Cobalt SS
-2004+ NSRT-4
-ITR

Just completely imo

Haven't driven any of those. Did own a 1994 Neon. Not the best car ever made.

Sat in a VelosterN.... The interior is so cheap I did not feel like test driving it, there was no way I would ever buy it.

The CTR interior is much nicer. The only thing I disliked was the plastic boomerangs at the center console and the plastic knee pad. You can replace the boomerangs with cloth ones, not sure about the knee pad.

I did sit in a Veloster in 2013. I don't know how similar it is to the new model, but I barely had any headroom. No helmet room = no trackdays = me buy FRS.

I saw a Veloster N last night in person finally. It looks so slick in and is much smaller than I imagined. Really like the design and the rear wing.

Sounds like he needs to work on his driving. All Integras are excellent handling FWD cars, regardless of the variant.

In your opinion, that's fair. The FoST is definitely a bit on the heavy side, but it actually does have a (brake-biased) limited slip, so if you're getting a lot of wheel spin you're driving another car, or overheating the brakes. When the FoST came out, it was universally praised as the best FWD hatchback available in the US, so there's also that. Its definitely not worst than at least half the cars on your list, by most people's opinion. And really the only cars on your list that are better than it are considerably more expensive.
