I have to agree with you. That is beautiful and much more reminiscent of the original Z car. However, it pretty much ignores the evolution of the car through the other years. The designer(s) tried to include styling cues from every generation which resulted in a bit of a convoluted mishmash of a styling exercise that we are being shown.

I have got to say, if they were to produce the car you have shown here then I would probably have to do a financially irresponsible thing and come up with the money to buy it. For that reason and that reason only I hope they stick with what they have shown because I will not be tempted enough by it.

For comparison. Close, but the differences add up to a big improvement.

Nose is longer and slants down. Headlights are lower, and the cabin is more to the rear. Looks more original and Aston Martin proportioned.

Compare the distance between the back of the front wheel arch and the door seam. That tells the story. The front overhang is about the same although the blue one has a little more slant to the nose but there is probably about 4-5 inches extra there.

It makes the design a lot more elegant.

Moving the Front wheel forward like that would require a whole new platform to be developed, rather than just adapting the Z34.

To be fair though the new WRX is probably going to be the most boring one ever.

I'd buy the blue one, definitely would not buy the yellow one.

The yellow one has all the design elements of the current car I don't like.

I'd prefer the blue over the yellow but depending on how the car actually handles, it could be dangerous to my wallet.
