I'm with Tcoat. The next gen is going to be a 2022, and it's been delayed up to 6 months because of Covid...very doubtful they have a pre-production model already built. I could see a pre-production engine/trans in an old body as a test mule though...

That test mule won't be on a world tour of tracks though. Probably hasn't even left Japan testing facilities if it even exists at all.

I wouldn’t be surprised this ended up being one of the 2nd gen test mules. None of the body changes we can see here were implemented this gen, and testing last September was too late for 2020 models anyway.

In Germany you can still order the current generation. So not quite sure why they stopped build to order sales in Japan. I am also reading that next generation might not be offered in Japan by Subaru, but only by Toyota. Subaru will be able to sell it only overseas ...

Agreed, I would think it would be more likely at a Subaru test site (in Japan) than a Toyota test site in Texas...but who knows...

Subaru tests prototypes at the Nurburgring all the time.

Agreed, not a world tour, but few manufacturers resist testing on the ring.

Not convinced they can order new ones even in Germany. Materials are sort of ambiguous.

Yea but if you are going to have a car for sale in less than 9 months, don't you have to have a working final prototype by now?

Maybe they do hidden away somewhere, but its the marketing piece I don't understand. You would think they would at least confirm it's coming at this point.

They used to at any rate.
This is a whole new world and what used to be done has little meaning anymore.
