True, but wasn't thinking of track. I'd rather track something older worth less money.

A few days ago I had someone try to wave me down for my squeaky brakes (these were due to the Hawk HP+ pads which squeal like hell no matter what).

Told him that I'm aware and it was normal, he gave me a compliment, and I gave my thanks and went on my merry way (without any brake failure).

I have STI pads and they squeal like crazy. I've gotten more complaints than compliments lately lol

I thought that it's the other way around, well I guess some people love squeaky breaks.

Actually yeah that's why he waved me down, because he thought my brakes were failing.

Attendant at the Costco Gas bar poked his head out to tell me that my FR-S looked to be a sweet ride and asked me what kind of mileage I get from her.

Figured that was a pretty decent compliment considering he probably sees a thousand cars each shift!

And another one last night as I pulled into a parking stall in front of a store. Guy asks me the usual “what kind of car is that?” and gets the glazed look when I reply “scion”..... (then have to mumble toyota, subaru....)

then he replies....”well, whatever it is, I love a car that is low to the ground, and that one is pretty low!” :-)

Stopped for gas and heard "Is that a Toyota?" From the other side of the pump.

I answered yes it is. Then he asked if it was an MR2? Mid engined?

...no it's a eight six.. front engine rear drive. He liked the car and said he had never seen one before. Then drive off in his Camry.

Before I got my 86, I never had folks ask what I'm driving. Two days ago, I was cruising back home with my windows down (one of the benefits of living in SE Florida in early spring) and ended up at a red light with a work van in the left-turn lane beside me. I could see the passenger in the van looking over my ride again and again as we waited for the light to turn green. Just as the light changed, he rolled down his window and asked, "What kind of car is that?" I shouted back, "Toyota 86!" and he smiled and gave me a thumbs-up as the van turned left. I never had anyone express any interest at all in any of my previous vehicles, so even though the BRZ/FR-S/86 first-gens have been on the scene for a quite a while now, they still turn heads. I think I'm driving the last car I'll ever buy!

Gotten more compliments on my car in the month-ish I've had it than in the 5 years I had a Mini.

The FR-S being obnoxiously red probably helps get it noticed.

No comparison to a Mini tbh. Mini's are quite average.

Indeed. Although the coupes are significantly more uncommon than a twin.

When I tell people that I usually get the response of "oh it is in good shape for a car that old but what model Toyota?"

I've had similar happen from a receptionist at a Toyota.

While loading groceries into my red BRZ, an old Italian man in a BMW 3 series parks next to me. After he gets out of his car he asks me if my car is the partnership between Toyota and BMW (referring to the new Supra). I politely correct him that this is not the Supra and is the partnership between Toyota and Subaru. He then asks if my car is fast, I say "no... but it handles very well".
