There was no talk about specific power increase. I refuted your statement and backed it with examples where you were exactly wrong.

Good Day Sir.

Can I ask how you guys are going about putting a deposit down on the 2017? I called and asked a good friend of mine, and he said that since the building of the car process hasn't opened yet, they are unable to take deposits right now.

you have to wait for Subaru to make an official announcement on the 2017 models for dealerships to be able to take preorders for them

My dealer (not in US) told me that I need to put a deposit down by 3 June in order to catch the first (August) production run. But he is still trying to get details so he can issue the invoice for me.

Yeah that lag would be really annoying. I suppose the best thing would be to wait until I've used it for a bit and go from there.

I hope it's big news on 6/12. But I would not be surprised to see Subaru just coming out with just yellow paint and a body kit if we're lucky.

Went to a dealership today and I felt like my salesman was full of crap, but I asked him if I can place an order for the 2017 and he said sure. However, he wanted me to know that I should expect a 7 to 8 grand markup since it's sortof a new generation and went on to explain that is what happened when the 2013's came out. But again he was probably just trying to scare me since he was trying to sell me the 2016 on the lot. Funny cause he didn't even know anything about the refresh and had to ask me what the changes were going to be.

What are your opinions on this? I don't want to pay over 30 grand for a limited 2017 brz lol..And this is based in northern California.
Sure... but that's a dealership you should avoid. They can pull that crap all they want, but all they're going to do is lose a sale.

Even at a 25hp increase people would still complain if that had happen.
In light cars like you listed, yes, you can feel that difference. Not to mention that's usually peak power and the Japanese tend to try and increase area under the curve not just peak.

Pretty sure it will be bodykit + brembo... Ya aka everything you can order from dealer except color.

Hopefully it's only slightly more expensive than Limited +Track Pack.

The MKI MR2 went from 112 hp to 145 hp...that's a HUGE jump...your point is fine for the other cars you listed, but not the MR2, that's all I'm saying.

That much of a jump in hp was back before the crazy emissions and fuel economy regs we have now...wouldn't happen today

...what? That was an optional model offered - the 4a-ge went from 112 to 115 hp, what's that.. a 2.7% increase? So the current bump is 2.5%, sounds about right for a Japanese brand. Otherwise it's akin to saying the 2011 Porsche 911 went from 345 hp to 620 hp. Apples to apples, man!

The BRZ has an adequate power/weight ratio already. Peak horsepower means little. If they can cheat the epa test run more aggressive gearing with a longer (short?) 6th like the corvettes do to keep fuel economy parity and focus on getting to the party earlier: an average increase of 15 ft lbs of torque between 3,200 and 5,500 rpms would be dynamite. The car would be more fun to drive everywhere below 7,000 rpms which the chassis can easily handle the extra grunt with rubber, so no need to reinvent the excellent packaging as-is. There is definitely no need to complicate the matters with FI (flame suit?) or additional r&d into different displacement, hybrid or alternative injection system(s) for such a niche product. Iron out the shortcomings (dip) of the current product through refinement.

Not sure if you're referencing for price to buy and this is likely a parallel point but since it's been brought up and I haven't seen here on the forums yet just a friendly heads up - there's been a recent shift in Truecar vision:

http://www.autonews.com/article/2016...-riled-dealers

http://www.fool.com/investing/genera...ceos-plan.aspx

I literally look at Truecar daily when I'm bored at work. I've seen the discounts diminish substantially over the past year across all brands and I've recently been involved in a purchase of a new truck that sold for significantly under TrueCar proposed reported estimated pricing. Not that TrueCar ever was the cheapest possible but it gave a good barometer of general pricing and legitimately did put some leverage in the consumers hand for attention - now though it's dealer happy pricing which isn't necessarily good for the consumer as it's a seller raised baseline.

Best thing we can do is to create transaction transparency on the forums for individual empowerment i.e. report what you paid and how you got the deal. As a rule of thumb some dealers will sell a car at invoice minus hold back and factory cash (not their money) to move a unit and clear floor space but that considers timing (season/quarter) and your rapport with the seller. There's a sustaining model in low-margin vehicle sales, it'll be made up in other departments and manufacture incentive's. Soon the lots will smell like a corn field.

The market works as it does: first in line gets to pay for the privilege.
