Well yeah. They'll let you inject ANYTHING at death's door, but not a vaccine? But I also empathize with the predicament. Would it make as much sense if she'd said "well maybe you need to amputate his left leg at the knee"? There is a limit of reasonable things. Though of course ivermectin isn't quite so insane...

It's got some crazy side effects (if not death) in HUMANS. Even at normal human dosages it can be weird side effects; at horse levels it's VERY bizarre, if not death. And at the level which seemed to have some effect in a petri dish? guaranteed death.
It strikes me as "this needs study to see WHAT seemed to have a potential benefit in this study, to see if it can be isolated and used independent of the rest of the mix which is ivermectin - or at least lead to another avenue of treatment." but certainly not "yeah let's just take these horse pills"

Surgical masks reduce COVID-19 spread: study
The study looked at 350,000 individuals across 600 paired villages

A new study that examined the effects of mask-wearing on the spread of COVID-19 found that even partial adoption helps to limit the spread.

The study, led by researchers at Stanford Medicine and Yale University, was a large-scale, randomized trial using 350,000 people from 600 villages in rural Bangladesh. Those living in villages were randomly assigned a number of interventions to promote the use of masks.

Researchers found that those living in the villages with such interventions were around 11% less likely to develop COVID-19 than those who did not. The effectiveness increased to nearly 35% for people over 60 years old, according to Stanford Medicine.

"Our study is the first randomized controlled trial exploring whether facial masking prevents COVID-19 transmission at the community level," said Ashley Styczynski, one of the lead authors and an infectious disease fellow at Stanford. "It’s notable that even though fewer than 50% of the people in the intervention villages wore masks in public places, we still saw a significant risk reduction in symptomatic COVID-19 in these communities, particularly in elderly, more vulnerable people."

The study also looked at the effect of using cloth instead of surgical masks: Cloth masks did reduce the overall likelihood of experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness, but it was not as effective as using a surgical mask.

"We saw an opportunity to better understand the effect of masks, which can be a very important way for people in low-resource areas to protect themselves while they wait for vaccines," said Laura Kwong, a former postdoctoral scholar at Stanford and assistant professor at the University of California-Berkeley. "So we collaborated with behavioral scientists, economists, public health experts and religious figures to design ways to promote mask use at a community level."

The study paired the 600 villages, assigning one with mask distribution and some promotion of policy, which involved notable Bangladeshi figures – such as the prime minister, a star cricket player and an imam – wearing masks and explaining why wearing masks was important. Additionally, individuals not wearing masks nor social distancing were regularly reminded to do so.

In villages without these interventions, around 13% of people wore masks properly compared to 42% in villages with the guidance. Social distancing only slightly improved with 24.1% in the control villages versus 29.2% in the intervention villages.

"This is statistically significant and, we believe, probably a low estimate of the effectiveness of surgical masks in community settings," Styczynski said.

Capt Spaulding, this is a case where it really is like a mild cold. The real concern is that mommy and daddy and to a lesser extent siblings don't get it.

My sons friend a few doors down has had their entire family infected twice, in both the 2nd AND the 3rd wave brought in from the daycare with their youngest of 3.

Be safe.

Thanks. My primary concern for the little is that he contracted RSV at the same time and same pre-school as Covid. I don't have any understanding of the impact, if any, the two maladies at once will have. Not much to do now but sit, wait, and deliver food and medical supplies to their house.

Thank you. I don't doubt the sincerity of the sentiment, but I can't help but believe that by making their own "choices" some unknown number of others made his choice for him. And that, by extension, they made my son's, daughter-in-law's, my other grandson's, and who knows how many others', choices for them. All without their even knowing it. I hope you understand how unfair that seems. I also hope that you might understand how angry it might make those who made different, by their thinking, more socially conscious choices.

Thoughts and prayers with your family. Hopefully his symptoms will be as mild as my son's are.

He's still in the quarantine period, but remains only having the taste/smell loss symptom (well aside from the positive test).

In talking with him last night he said he'd rather be mildly sick and still be able to taste/smell things, but just happy the vaccine seems to have done its job.

Anecdotal information:
My father's aunt died shortly after contracting COVID-19 in Pennsylvania. I say it that way because she was in a nursing home with a bunch of serious health issues at 90+ and they were already expecting her to pass within the year. She was vaccinated.

it's quite literally the same as a wrong way driver.

we all have the capability, right, and personal choice to drive on the wrong side of the highway with our lights off, at night--there's nothing fundamentally preventing anyone from making that choice at any given time, except some laws created[you could say mandated] by the government to specify direction of traffic flow, and penalties for those that disobey.

Ivermectin: a multifaceted drug of Nobel prize-honoured distinction with indicated efficacy against a new global scourge, COVID-19

An unfunded review published September 2021. References are extensive. I didn't get into the weeds of the review but found the Abstract and Conclusion interesting.

Then later read that for non-COVID use the CDC recommends Ivermectin for refugees arriving into the US.

FTA:

Conclusion

We believe that the evidence to date supports the worldwide extension of IVM treatments for COVID-19, complementary to immunizations. The indicated biological mechanism of IVM, competitive binding with SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, is likely non-epitope specific, as reviewed [8], possibly yielding full efficacy against emerging viral mutant strains. IVM has been safely used in 3.7 billion doses since 1987, well tolerated even at much greater than standard doses [34,35] and used without serious AEs in the three high-dose COVID-19 treatment studies noted above [34,36,37]. In the current international emergency of COVID-19, with mutant viral strains, vaccination refusals and potentially waning immunities over months presenting new challenges, IVM can be an effective component of the mix of therapeutics deployed against this pandemic.

Evidently prisoners in Arkansas were being treated with ivermectin unbeknownst to them.
