Is it cheaper to repair it or do an engine swap? How much can I expect to pay total for an engine swap? Thanks!
I had a spun rod bearing and got a used engine.

Paid 2500 for the engine in 2015 and 500 to have it installed. In retrospect, I would've installed it myself. This is one of the easiest engines to install.

Getting it rebuilt is probably not a good option. If you're wanting a built engine, you could buy a short block but they typically have a high core charge and your crank could be bad requiring additional cost.

I was able to get my used engine for 2500 with no core charge. So I still have my other long block. Well actually full engine minus accessories.

Man.....I am new to these cars but I have never heard of a knocking rod lasting two years. Something would have let go by now.

I don’t think you’d last 2 years with what was originally even a “slight” knock unless the miles driven don’t reflect a normal two years. At least from prior experiences…

humfrz, the sound does seem to be coming from the passenger side. if it is the vacuum pump, i'm thinking that's a significantly cheaper job. i wonder if it's something i can tackle on my own. i'll need to see if a DIY exists on Youtube.
Hey fr&s did you ever find out what caused this issue? My engine started having the same issue recently and don’t know where to start.
