As long as you're not paying over MSRP, there isn't much markup between invoice and MSRP on the BRZ, WRX, etc. These aren't cars where people typically get $5k off or anything.

I paid close to full MSRP for my 2015 WRX (in 2014), it had no markups and no garbage accessories (tint, etc.). It was totaled 2 years later (no fault of my own) for $2k or so less than what i paid. Made me rethink how I buy cars in that I don't mind paying a bit more if value is retained.

The WRX, and even more so the STI, are known to hold their value really well. I think the BRZ and 86 fall into that category, although not quite as good as the WRX. Used car prices are ridiculous right now for any decent vehicle. It’s the classic supply and demand issue. New car production has been slowed down so much.
My advice is if you are planning on buying a second gen twin, sell your first gen now! If you have a second car to use until then.

Facts. This is the only reason I'm offloading my current vehicle. Very rare to have the positive equity, especially when your car is usually worth as much as a paper clip and stick of gum. (Fiesta ST)

My lease is up in 13 months. Hopefully the world is in a better place and the options on the GR86 are better next year. I want just a little more.

I stopped in at our local dealer in Vancouver, WA just to rattle cages and see if they knew anything. I was greeted by a pre-owned 2020 Hakone sitting right up against the glass front windows of the building. I was directed to a sales person with pretty eyes, lovely figure, and impractically long French-manicured nails. Alas, she knew next to nothing about cars, and less than nothing about the soon-to-come GR86. I had to point to the Hakone to explain to her what it was. She ran to her manager, who just shrugged.

I see why that Hakone is so expensive. It has heated leather seats, leather seats, heated seats, and heated driver seat. So many seats! It's a like a green 4Runner.

Oooh, I live about 5 minutes from McCord's. Happy to put you in touch with someone knowledgeable at a Subaru store in town if you're not 100% stuck on a GR86. And you're more than welcome to check out my BRZ when it comes in.

I *did* find out this Toyota dealership will take deposits to reserve a car, but can't yet with this one.
