hi first post. got this july 20.

Hello:

Thank you for taking the time to contact Subaru of America, Inc. and for your interest in a 2017 Subaru BRZ Ltd with the Performance Pack.

We are now accepting orders for 2017 BRZ models, except the BRZ Series.Yellow model. That model will not be available until next spring and will be a limited production model.

Our web site should be updated to the 2017 BRZ information in the next few weeks.

Thanks again, Matthew, for your interest in Subaru.

Sincerely,

I have ordered/deposited but was told that the limited with the performance package won't be available until January. Also told that the BRZ limited with PP would be orderable in a week or so.

I think dealerships have unwritten lists and if they have cars in the books as sold deposits that is what they are looking to do.

Went to 3 dealerships today and can't get otd price under 30.5k. How much did you get it for?

$27,131 for the limited manual (does not include PP) is probably as low as most dealers are going to go. At least in the Bay Area. Remember though the better deals for OTD pricing that you are going to see is probably due to tax rate (which is uncontrollable).

Trust me I shopped around based on feedback here about dealerships but below is who I contacted on my list for the Bay Area.

Dealership Name
Livermore Subaru (favorite dealer because everyone at the dealership is young and mod their cars; even though they are wrx owners)
Subaru of Oakland
Capitol Subaru
Steven's Creek Subaru
Walnut Creek Subaru
Elk Grove Subaru
Carlsen Subaru

I tried to get something done with serramonte, but they arent motivated. Ended up placing a deposit with Jack at heuberger in colorado springs on a pp ltd. He has been an absolute pleasure to deal with.

Tried to get a car from Diablo subaru in ca. Won't order a car until I can prove my ability to pay for the car. Is that normal practice?

Should have warned you those guys are an older crowd so it doesn't surprise me. Most of the best deals I have had in the past and nicest people have been the Internet dealership guys.

If you go to a lot however and are dressed like you just came off the set of fast and the furious you are probably going to be shown the door. Most of the time talking with the dealer manager will remedy this situation but ultimately if you don't dress for success these types of things happen.

You can either take it personally or just say whatever. Ultimately at this point you are just price shopping so going through the Internet guy might yield better results.

No, to me that is not normal practice. All dealers I've ever inquired about ordering from never question me about my finances prior to ordering. If they ever did then they are probably judging you based on your appearance. Worst case scenario is having to put a deposit down. But other than that, sounds to me like I'd take my business elsewhere if they can treat a potential customer as someone who can't afford a car for no legitimate reason unless they're that determined to have proof of income.

Just sounds like it takes the excitement out of the ordering and customer experience imo. Fortunately, my dealer is reputable in customer service satisfaction so ordering from them doesn't begin with the hassle of proving anything beforehand. They placed my order without a deposit and trust I will not back out or will have finances secured when the vehicle is ready to be taken for delivery.

Just placed an order for the car at dealership A, but got a better offer from dealership B. Am I an asshole if I refund it the next day and order from B?

If you got a full quote and offer letter then yes. If it was just a deposit and nothing more then no but if the offer is significantly lower I would ask dealer A to try to match it.

Ultimately when you shake on it and they write you an offer which you sign. Backing out of it is poor form but it's your choice. Reason being is after you place a deposit down you should be done but instead you went back and shopped around which is what you should have done in the first place prior to placing the deposit.
