RCE Yellow ride quality question

Would there be an increase in comfort switching from a Pro-Kit setup on B6s to the yellows on B6s? I’m not terribly impressed with the setup I have now, but I’m unsure if I’m expecting too much comfort from aftermarket suspension on the platform.

I would be amazed if the RCE's didn't ride better. They rode pretty good even with stock dampers for me, just a bit too untamed on bad roads. With B6s should be noice. The main thing is how the roads are around you tbh.

Probably not, the RCE front springs are stiffer than that of your Eibachs and have a more linear shape to them. There are also other factors to consider like spring thickness, # of coils and the fact that you’ll gain an extra 0.2” in compression travel with the yellows. In the end I don’t think you’d notice a big enough to justify the amount of $ needed to make this swap happen.

If you don’t track your car, I’d highly suggest looking into the “comfort” springs for our cars, which unfortunately are only STI and RSR down. The increase in spring rate is slight, and only lowers like 10mm, but the change in how the car drives is very noticeable especially with a sport shock like the Bilstein B6. RCE has a spring like this for the WRX/STi line of cars called the “old man” springs, but I think I remember reading they didn’t think enough 86 owners would want them to justify production. They were probably right, as we are a rare breed wanting more comfort out of a tiny Japanese sports car haha.

Yeah, I fear I’m getting too old and spoiled by adaptive dampeners in my other vehicles. Thanks for the responses.

Good point on the spring rates but i bet the RCEs will still feel better due to more suspension travel, which is not a strength these cars have in the first place anyways.

The rsr will lower to around 20-25mm and the sti springs will bring power by about 15mm.

Since the sti springs have no advertised rates, nobody really knows. But they are comfortable on your roads.
Jim Theo will tell you.

The rsr are also comfy type as the rate are not too bad. Front is 3.3 or so and rear is 4.1 kg.
With a motion ratio of 0.75 the rear rates should be around the same with the front ones.

RCE is 4.5kg square. Slightly stiffer than the rsr. But they are a popular choice due to being linear.

You are looking at the RSR Super Down, the RSR Down is a 10-15mm drop.

Probably not a big enough difference to justify spending extra cash.

The added slight bit of ride height and stiffer front springs will help with bump travel for big bumps. I would switch if you wanted to change the spring rate bias front/rear. Yellows have even 4.5k F/R.

To be honest I'd probably go B6/stock springs if ride was a concern. My B6/yellow setup rides well for what it is, on rough crap roads while daily driving I sometimes miss the stock springs.if I lived in a area with mostly unkept roads I would have went stock springs by now.

Does the ProKit come with replacement bump stops? If not you may be riding on the bumpstops full time making the ride much worse.

From memory the B6 use the stock bump on the rear and have their own one on the front as its an inverted strut. If the kit came with bump stops you may only have them on the rear making the front harsher than they would be with the right bumpstops or by trimming the Bilstein bumpstops.
