2005 Altima ---> 15 MT BRZ. In almost all respects I feel like I traded up. So glad to be back in MT again. Trade down was really only in interior space, and a bit harsher ride. Like @Tcoat, I like in an area where twins are relatively rare (and being a female driving one is obviously rarer), so I am also enjoying the uniqueness.

Coming from a 05 STi, I feel like I traded up. I do miss the torque and AWD for the snow, but the FRS is better in everything else. A lot of friends and family feel like I traded down but the FRS keeps me happy at any speed. Unless I was boosting and speeding, the STi felt like a regular Impreza.

I am getting rid of the 86 in about 2 years and I guess that's when I am going to have to get something luxurious with a slush box lol.
That's why my wife got the Lexus so at least we have one full size car ahah. Yea, the mr2 is a keeper. No point in selling it. The money I'll get for it is not worth the heartbreak if it leaves.

My boss just got a q50. Soooooo jealous!

I definitely traded up since at the time my DD was a 2000 Chevy Astro with 289,000 miles on it. We had (finally) outgrown the need for a family vehicle so I got to go back to the type of car I love.

It's so strange how much the average density of FR-S/BRZ vehicles varies by region. Seem to be plenty in Cali, but here in Texas it's still pretty rare. None of the Toyota dealers in Austin area seem to keep more than 2 or 3 on the lot at any given time. I can go a week at a time without seeing another one.

OTOH, I picked up my daughter from her high school a few weeks ago, with some comment to the effect of "How does it feel to be picked up in the coolest car on campus?" What happened next was proof that God does indeed have a sense of humor. No sooner had the words left my mouth than I found myself behind a white BRZ. I honked and waved to the driver. Then I turned right onto the main street and was nearly hit by a 16 year old student driving a red FR-S. In the successive block or two, I encountered a black one and a silver one. Counting mine, that was 5 FR-S/BRZ models in two blocks. So in my suburban town at least, FR-S's are popular.

I went from a 05 S2k to a '13 FRS. Friends think I downgraded, I think it's a sidegrade. I'll gladly trade the 40hp for practicality, no leaking soft top, and a bit more low end tq.

I miss the cable throttle though.

One of the main reasons why I bought my car

Mine was an equal trade with just a different want. I had a modified TRD SC 05 tC that I loved dearly. It had 87k when I sold it and had another 100k in it for sure. Great car. Just like the mechanical upgrades of the FRS.

Traded Down

All in all, I cant say its a huge loss but i traded down from an 09 328i. My excuse was to go from a 100k mile car to a 15k mile car with warranty, as well as switching from AWD to RWD. But all my friends and family see it as a huge mistake on my part (but theyll have to get used to it).

picture for reference: (really miss the heated steering wheel)

It's cause friends and family think BMW is the best car on the roads when they are not. Just good marketing done by BMW to have everyone assume your successfully when you drive those cars

Who traded "down"?

I traded down but not by as much as I initially thought I was. I ordered a manual 2011 BMW M3 Competition coupe new. Owned that car a wonderful trouble free 3 years. The ONLY thing I miss is the S65 V8 and the 8400 rpm redline. However I don't miss the frequent trips to the gas station. Best engine I've had the pleasure of experiencing so far. Not even close. This Flat 4 has grown on me though. There is power in the upper revs and when combined with its fuel economy, it's a good motor...not great.
The overall package of what you get in the Twins at this price point is utterly amazing to me. There are a lot of former BMW guys here for a reason.
