It's been said many times and many ways but, no one has said it any better than Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.

Update: that PT session was insanity in physical form. It wasn't 60 soldiers. It was closer to 90 and I was the only one instructing. For reference, at the collegiate level it's normally a 20:1 ratio. Still, it was a moderate success. There was a chaotic order and no one got hurt.

Chaos is the order in disorder...
I bet 70 already knew everything so you were only instructing 20.

Reminds me of time (back in the 60s) when we were training at Fort Irwin, CA.

Yep, 1,000 square miles of pure (120 degree F) hell in August.

At the time, soldiers in the Army Reserve, could wear their hair long, as far as they could stuff it under a short haired wig.

After about a week, on one of those 120 degrees plus days, one of my lieutenants (2nd Lt Ted) burst into my HQ tent, threw off his steel pot and wig and screamed at another of my lieutenants (2nd LT Rod) ........ cut my hair off - ALL of it -

Yes, I did get a chuckle out of that.

Wow! Hot hot hot!

Given a choice between cooking, or freezing to death, I'll pick freezing, thank you very much.

Well, I've soldiered in both hot and cold situations. I'll choose hot, over cold (unless you could stay inside the track and the heater was working - ).

Soldiering sucks in general. If it didn't, anyone could do it.
