Sub box recomendations..

I have a 12inch JL W3 that I want to put in the trunk.. problem is my box is too big for the FRS trunk. Anyone have any recommendations for a box that will fit a 12 and in the trunk?

I am thinking about cutting the box and removing about 4 or 5 inches of depth to see if I can get it to fit but then I need to worry about mounting depth for the sub.

It's pretty simple to build a new enclosure. Build one to fit.

Yeah I am thinking about doing that.. the box I have now is ported and I know that changing the demensions of the box/port will change the frequency the port is tuned to and I dont wanna ruin the sound.

With how small the interior, there's gonna be a ton of cabin gain, I highly doubt you'll need a ported box to flatten out the response. Just food for though.

My previous box was ported and I thought I'd lose response in the BRZ. As Calum stated - it was quite the opposite. The cabin is so small that the response in the BRZ with two sealed enclosures is actually louder then the ported setup I had.

If I were you I'd ditch the ported box and save the space for a smaller enclosure.

Also, thin subwoofers are becoming more and more popular now. You can get a GREAT subwoofer that's designed for a shallow mounting depth. Even Alpine Type R's are coming in a thin design: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RGfru3W...=DST&XVVER=CCC

I had a pair of 12s I wanted to put in, but ultimately decided to go with 10s because a proper box for 12's would take up ALOT of the trunk space. Good luck though!

Thanks guys.. I think for now I am going to break down the current ported box and make it a smaller sealed box.. If I still dont like the space it takes up I will ditch the 12 and go with maybe something like a slim 10 or just a stealth box and a 10.

If u give me dimensions I'll design u a killer box for ur subs. I'm really in to audio and design boxes all the time for fun. Plus I would love the trunk dimensions so I can start my design for a box before I get my frs
