Vancouver Tuning Shops
I noticed in another thread that Jay mentioned AJ-Racing. I had not heard of them until that, so I thought maybe we could get a local list of tuners going.
(I'm not affiliated with any of them, but have had work done at a couple of them.) Only ones I know about for imports are the following: Garage 5 : In Richmond. Hondas mostly? A co worker had work done here on his B16-swapped EF hatch. Racing Greed Don't know where the new shop is. I had some work done there, they have an in-House Mustang dyno. I believe that DSMs were what they originally started with, but they had no problems with my JDM Supra. Forcefed: In Abbotsford. Started with rotaries, have a fast 8-second drag Supra. In-house Dynojet dyno. Independent Speed Shop: In Langley. I've had work done here, by Bill. He has a good reputation as a wiring and tuning guy. The 'Tuned by Bill' stickers on cars are from here. He's got a pretty sweet AE86. Originally turbo with boxed ITBs, now I heard he's putting in a 1UZFE, also with ITBs. He likes VIPEC standalones, and has a lot of experience on Haltec as well. Drive Hard: In Richmond. They have an in-house 2WD Dyno Dynamics dyno. I have not dealt with them personally, but I know that Bill from Independent Speed Shop tunes there. Rocket Rally: In Squamish. Subaru specialist. Sponsor the Vancouver Impreza/Subaru Club on NASIOC, and are a Subaru Canada sponsored rally team. They apparently have a crazy giant fan AWD Dyno Dynamics room. Have not had any work done by them though. A&J Racing: Richmond. Don't know anything about them. There must be more. Anyone else?

Gearheads: Richmond based tuner shop. Lots of Evos coming out of there
Speed Syndicate: Burnaby based shop. They do a bunch of different type of cars. Ones I've personally seen and love are their s2k and an sti build Monkeynutz: Burnaby based. Don't know much about them MFRT: Vancouver based. Don't see many cars by them other than at the shop but usually got good deals on Apexi and Greddy gear. Epic Autosports: Surrey based. Seen 1 car from them and it was just a b16a swapped civic. Ztune: Burnaby based. As the name implies mostly Nissan cars. Bunch of really cool Z come from here (slight biase as I love the 240z and I've seen a bunch from them) Staff's Auto: North Van based. Builded some crazyyy rotarys Rev Competition: Richmond based. Euros and imports. Evolution Autosports: Maple Ridge based. Don't know much about them heard they do some clean engine swaps tho. AJ-R has a bunch of hondas and such. There a whole little fleet of champion white s2k that AJ-R cars You've named all the other ones that are pretty well known There are a couple more but I can't think of them off the top of my head

Is Z-Tune still in business, or did they move? I used to live near them by Brentwood, but they're not there anymore.

Not really a shop but I will plug it anyway, sorry to topic jack.
You guys should sign up on Dori-Kaze for this car. It might be the community for older 86's and classic toyota's, but there are a lot of knowledgeable people who work at dealerships and who are either professional or at home mechanics etc. I'm on there since I have an ae86 myself, but when the FR-S comes out I'm sure they'll be interested as well. I take my car to Brian on DK who is a certified Toyota/Lexus mechanic and does installation, repairs, maintenance, swaps etc. at his place after work for a lot of people in the DK community. He'll most likely be getting a chance to see and work with this car for pre-prep before any of us get a chance to see it. |
