Transmission Input Shaft

Anyone know how much movement to expect on the manual transmission input shaft? I am working on my hydraulic bearing and noticed the shaft has a bit of play and dont remember it being like that before. I don't find the transmission service manual to be very clear.

There's some play until it's mounted to the engine. The pilot bearing supports the input shaft, maintaining coaxial alignment with the output.

Transmission Input Shaft

Sorry for the delay. I have been tied up the last couple days

Not sure how to embed a video so here's a link.

It seems worse in the video after I watched it. lol

There are no signs of leaks from the seal or any other abnormal noises or symptoms. The transmission service manual only has radial clearance checks for the input shaft to the output shaft.

The input shaft bearing check is with the shaft removed and only specifies that there is no abnormal feel in the movement, binds, abnormal noise or loose fit. This really can't be checked unless the shaft is in hand holding the bearing with the shaft.

As Ultramaroon indicated once installed it is supported by the pilot bearing.

Seeing how I had no other symptoms at this point I think I will install it and monitor.

The input shaft is held by the input bearing and a small ~ 14mm needle bearing. It floats around until it goes in the clutch and pilot bearing.
