Does a keyless car keep running out of range of the fob?

Yes but the fob has to be inside the car to start it. It has a very short range. I know, I have tried.

House-to-street too far? OP didn't mention a jacked ignition.

My dad was in the room above the garage/driveway and didn’t hear the chevelle turn over during the wee morning hours. And the whole block would know when it turned over. Straight piped 350. I called around to a few friends that live in not so great areas of town and said they probably towed out the chevelle. After the frs was left in the driveway it was parked in first gear and I strictly leave it in neutral with the e brake engaged. My mom think it’s someone getting back at me but I don’t have any known enemies besides the Borg and we’re working things out.

Outside of drivers door even an inch is too far. Has to be totally in the car. It is a chipped security system so the car can not be hot-wired. The engine will not start without a fob.
There are very expensive RFD devices that can be used but they are not common and people that have them do not use them to steal Twins much less steal it, smack it up and then return it.
There is far more to this than OP knows or is saying.

I've been around several cars that have been towed and none of them were towed by stealth Ninja's. The Chevelle was stolen and your car was taken for a drive, returned AFU, and nobody heard it? Sound sleeper your, dad.

Thanks. OP needs to inventory his keys.

Reminds me of a back-in-the-day story when a friend of mine rented an orange Lamborghini Gallardo convertible from Gotham Dream Cars (NYC based but they deliver the car to you on a trailer). Anyway we went to my father's shop in an industrial park in hard hittin New Britain to show the guys and my old man our hot wheels. After getting bored of whatever conversation they were having inside I ran and sat in the driver's seat of the car. My buddy held up the FOB like he was jingling a set of keys and laughed. I said "Hey what does this do?" Pointing at the dash of the Lambo. When got about 2ft from the driver's door I started it up and took it for a joyride around the block

My first Lancer could be started if the fob was within about 10 feet. That is why when I got the new car one of the very first things I checked was the range.

I can't believe they keep running, but I suppose that's insurance against a dead battery in the fob.
