Does anybody have personal experience with the HKS UEL header?

Has anyone here personally used this header (https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/hks...l#.XqLWqCVOnDs) or know of any dyno graphs with it installed? I can’t seem to find much information on it. I’m trying to choose between this header and the FT86SpeedFactory UEL header. I’m just wondering how those 2 compare in terms of both sound and performance. So far, it seems like the FT86SF header gives better performance, but I like that the cat on the HKS is way smaller. More concerned with performance than sound.

FT86SF claims at least 18lb gain in the torque dip before even getting a tune. Anyone know how the HKS stacks up to that?

(Also, before anyone lectures me about EL design giving better performance, I’m aware of that. I’m still sticking with UEL).

If your priority is performance, most of the gain of upgrading the header comes from loosing the cat, and if ur tuning, then you dont have to worry about CEL.

Are you thinking you'll put a catted header in so it wont throw a code and you wont have to worry about tuning it?

Well I was planning on going catless but it seems like nobody sells catless headers anymore. The only ones I have seen online are brands I’m not really interested in anyway, I might consider the Tomei though. I got the catless front pipe already. And I do live in IL where I gotta test emissions, but they just read the ECU. Never seen them actually measure the exhaust itself.

I already picked up an OFT so I am definitely going to put a tune on it, I may just have the cat gutted out of whatever I get before installing it.

Regardless of which brand you get, if you go catless and with a catless front pipe, it's going to be loud and annoying. That stock front pipe does a very good job of keeping the exhaust volume tame when going UEL catless.

I was worried about that too. My front pipe at least has a resonator but I don’t really want the car to be obnoxious. I wonder which robs more performance - the stock front pipe or the cat in an aftermarket header? I still have the stock front pipe

You can buy catless headers in 86speed.com

Sounds great, but if you change the exhaust the drone and rasp is horribleeeeeeeee i had to cut the aftermarket exhaust and put a 22 inch res to balance the drone.

I'm also pretty curious about this since I'm in the same boat and whether to get the FT86SF one or HKS.

Let's see those sound clips!

Sound clips still to come! But I can officially say that this is the best sounding rumble to me on this platform. It is really deep and clean, thanks to the rest of the Package (HKS Hi-Power Spec L Catback Exhaust). The HKS Flash Editor is great as well, no more torque dip. Lovely rumble exhaust sounds now. I drive with my windows down all the time now lol.

Toyota 86 in the building!
