If I ever decided to sell Emma, I would go this route.

Ditto! This is the car you are looking for

The OP mentions he has a Mk1 VW as his track toy, so he likely wants that magic combination of a DD that's also engaging and fun without being overly hardcore. The E46M3 is a great suggestion as long as you aren't turned off by expensive maintenance. IMO a 1st gen facelifted Z4 would also be great, ditto maintenance and also cargo hauling capability, if needed. Also consider a 1st gen CTS-V, as they're an easy buy right now and lots of fun in a discreet wrapper.

As far as new cars? IMO that's a tough one as everything reasonably priced is getting so boring and insulated to drive. What's your budget?

the frs is a cruiser for weekends, back road runs and car meets/ cruises. i drive it as a toy so to speak.
I was debating on selling the vw when the new body work and cage is done as i didnt see my self using it much anymore due to the fwd problem... lol

The seats were hard and after about 30 mins my ass checks would be all tingly. The floor pan was very thin. You could literally hear every little bump in the road through the chassis and floor. The door didn't seal well. At higher speeds the roof would chatter a lil bit. No stereo quality worth mentioning. The suspension was very stiff for on road use.

Overall, I liked the car aesthetically. Power is good. Feel of driving is good. But it is very race carish. Reminded me of my old crx that was fast and slammed to the ground. I only wanted to drive it if I was racing on smooth pavement cause otherwise it would beat me to death enough to were I couldnt enjoy a cruise.
Thanks for the write-up man. That was more detailed than I was expecting. Given that I'd still want to drive it on the street some days, it sounds like the Exige might be a little too track-oriented. Sad bc I love the looks of the Exige.

How about the touring Elise (has carpets and such)? It won't be quiet but it'll feel slightly nicer on the inside. I haven't driven an Elise before however so I don't know how hardcore they are, I do know that my own MR2 Spyder is noisy as crap, god damn ragtop lol.

SOOOOOOOPRRRAAAAAAAA!!!!

They're hella reliable, make any amount of power you want, have fantastic chassis', and are good on the street and the track. They are a little heavy, but you're not gonna find anything that is FRS sized in the states thats not either an RX-x, Miata, or S2k...

Also, chuchuchuchuchu.

Right, almost forgot about them. Although with both of them clocking in at almost 3100 pounds, they are a bit on the heavy side compared to the aforementioned cars...

Potent cars nonetheless...

Anyone else smell that? Smells like... .. like... the op is full of crap.

If you race on the track, you are very VERY familiar with what you like, feel comfortable with, and want from a car. and you sure as hell know exactly what car thats available is the one you want. You dont wish-wash on a forum saying youve had this and that and you race at the track in this but dunno what you want.

Sounds like you belong in the 240 crowd. Good novice power and neutral handling dynamics. Perfect probie car for you.

Good suggestion, I'll look into it. Embarassing to say, but my preference for the Exige was aesthetic. But if the touring pack on the standard Elise makes it usable as a daily where the Exige wouldn't be, that might be the way to go.
