Same as Dylan. I’m set on the 86, mainly because of the Neptune blue. I’ve had a white FRS for years and want something with some color, and the Neptune is exactly what I wanted. I haven’t got any updates from Walnut Creek, and I’m okay with waiting a few months for a car I plan on keeping as long as the life will let me.

Hopefully this is some positive news that things are starting to happen. I got a call from the dealer I was #1 at the list at this afternoon (Portland, Oregon area) and they have one coming in supposedly in late December or early January. They sent me the window sticker-type looking pdf which has the VIN and options, etc. So I think this is legit info to share.

That’s fantastic news. The pdf which is usually 2-3 pages and has the VIN is the build sheet.

This is good news! To make sure it’s for a Gr86 right? Did it say what trim and color it is?

That’s great news. So I shouldn’t be impatient and impulse buy a BRZ. There is hope! Thank you!

That's awesome - congrats! First one that I've heard with a VIN so far.

What are the first 6 digits? I'm curious on what the chassis code for this one is!

GR86=ZN8
BRZ=ZD8

This can not be understated!
My grandson is looking at a 6 to 8 month wait for an ordered base Corolla with an MT! A freakin' COROLLA. One of the best selling and usually easiest to get cars. Toyota lots are empty across most of Canada (and I assume the US). Subaru lots are not much better.

With that said, there is obviously absolutely no reason anyone should be putting down deposits for either car.

In all seriousness though, I imagine that this time next year the market will be much different, the twins at the first go around had similar backorders (albeit not coming off a pandemic, chip shortages, etc) and things calmed down quickly once initial demand was met.
Yup. Nobody should be getting riled up, unless they sold their car to take advantage of the market, or it was crashed and they need something new.

As for a lack of initial availability (assuming this is true), I would tie that to them parceling cars out slowly to stay in line with demand.

In 2013 they sold around 25,000 FS-S/BRZ models combined in the U.S. in the first year. For GEN II, if trends continue, that number might only be 4~5,000 for 2022, if not lower.

So the situation is quite a bit different. White it could be shortages, I wouldn't think the effect would be more than maybe delaying production of a few hundred units.

It is more likely they don't want to piss off dealers by dumping cars on lots they can't move after meeting the initial pent up demand.
