Well the good news is that it won't be tomorrow and I will be dead well before it becomes an issue.

There is work being done to create both electric and hydrogen based aircraft. Hydrogen makes the most sense to me, since you can turn around the plane about as quickly as with Jet A. Batteries in a plane (regardless of size of the plane) makes no sense to me, way too much weight to fly and in aviation every ounce counts against profit.

There are some EVs that really interest me (Lyriq, IONIC 5, Silverado EV), but I can't quite let go of ICE for the convenience, and we do plan to road trip a good bit in retirement. Having just flipped 200K in the 86, and with retirement 2 to 3 years away, I really would like to buy the next car now, but I can't decide what route I want to go, and heaven knows this isn't the right time to be doing it!

Wait until around 2029/2030, there will likely be a face-lifted 2nd gen version with all the goodies by then, Ts version etc. That’s what I might end up doing or keep my current gen and get something else. I’d find it hard to part with, but it might be tired and old by then. First world choices….

Don't see why not. There are a lot of folks on here that will be celebrating 10 years this year. Picked mine up on 05/11/2012 with 7 miles, now has 200K+ miles on it and still going strong.

Plus my biggest gripe is actually all the convenience you have to give up in order to currently live with an ICE....trip planning due to charging stations being in crap places or not in areas where you'd want it to be, long charge times, a million apps because each charging company needs to do its own thing.....Aint nobody got time for that....a million apps are needed because you cant pay at the station....and seemingly half the existing charging stations out there just never work. The infrastructure here sucks ass so hopefully that's at a decent level by then as well..... Plus cars with decent winter range...i get about 500kms give or take here little more in summer, little less in winter depending on how a drive...would like the EV to be roughly the same...except it only seems like Tesla meets or exceeds that criteria...and i dont want a Tesla. |

The 2023 model year may be the beginning of the tipping point on range. There are going to be some 50 models available and many of them will be the range you are looking for. In some form or another the following have already said they will be in that range: Cadillac Lyriq, Ford Lightning, Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Hummer EV, Mercedes EQS, Nissan Ariya. The Chevy Blazer and Equinox will be very close to the 500km range but it hasn't been finalized yet. Like you said though these are all almost exclusively either crossovers or trucks, the reason being that's what sells like it or not. (Personally I don't). The crossover, for better or worse, is basically the new sedan.

Yeah, I'm wondering if there's a single thread around here where this ev crap is not mentioned. I mean, is it a car enthusiast forum at all?
