Are aftermarket side skirts/steps, rear spats and lip spoiler legal? worried about aero rules.

Anyone have direct link to stx class rules? what is the other name for it? street XXXXX?
Here is a link to the rules: http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/...ne_reduced.pdf

Street Touring is section 14 in the rulebook. As a general rule, if the rulebook does not say you can do something, you can't do it.

As far as Aero is concerned, the following bold italicized statement is what the rule book says. Depending on the region you run with, you may be able to get away with the Aero, but don't count on it.

Addition of spoilers, splitters, rear wings, bumper covers, valances, side
skirts, and non-functional sccops/vents is allowed provided that either:
1. It is a production part which is standard or optional equipment of a
US model of the vehicle. (“Model” is defined in Section 12.)
2. It is listed in the vehicle manufacturer’s US accessory catalog for that
vehicle for normal highway use. This does not allow for parts sold
through a manufacturer’s performance catalog (e.g., Ford Racing, HPD, Mazdaspeed, Mopar Performance, Mugen, NISMO, SPT, TRD,
etc).
Parts must be installed as directed by the manufacturer. Exact
replicas, including weight, from alternate sources are also permitted.

Ha... Good point.. . But I was taking the Driving part out of it and helping concentrate on setup...

-Adjustable bars are good.. the more adjustment you have, the better off you are to dial in the setup to your liking. whiteline 20-22 mm..
-Rear Bar can be had for cheap.... Used Stock 2008-2014 STi Rear bar.. since most of those guys change the stock bar ..anyways... there is a difference between a sedan and hatch bar and there is a year split and bar diameter change... *can't remember what it was tho... I am using a 2012 STi rear bar *19mm.. some of the earlier years were 18mm..
after market camber bolts will add appropriate camber to about -3 degrees for cheap to. but since you have the Feals.. you should be good. I will say that alignment is pretty critical on this platform... and there is definitely a sweet spot when conducting them. *mine has been on the alignment rack about 20 times since I owned it. Hope that helps

Bill

Well as much as it would make sense to do suspension first it doesn't make a lot of sense right now unless I want to throw away $$..

With the current limitations of stock shock/Struts with lowering springs, replacing sway bars just means I will need to spend the money again to replace them once I install coilovers...
I need more front neg camber, and until i can get it.. the only thing that will help is abit more power..

Or bite the bullet for the first part of the season while saving for coilovers...

Is there a 'cookie cutter' sway bar setup being used these days?

What are the favoured spring rates for tarmac 2's these days?

So far my feeling is I need a car perhaps leaning towards oversteer but that could just be my frustration of having to deal with the boat i currently drive...

Tossing up RCE T2's or Ohlins... but .. fiscal responsibility may delay...

If you're serious, T2 with good top-hats... by the time you get up to Ohlins, you're close to Tein SRC, which is ... well, spiral on up. Or keep your eyes peeled for a used set FS!

I was out (first time in this car, first time in 12 years) in a completely stock suspension setup on 225 PSS and didn't have issues lacking oversteer - I just wasn't pushing the car at all (or at least, that's the best I can figure.) I do have a tune, worth it for the soft revlimiter if nothing else.

I'm still on stock sways with new coilovers and a proper alignment (and 200TW tires now.) Going to run this way for a bit, watch tire temps and try to get a feel for things before making any other changes.

All that to say, I agree - suspension before power. Coils before sways, IMO. Alignment above all. And tires. And seat time.

You can get some crazy good deals here and there in the FS section.

What size RE71R are people running in STX? Is it same as RS3's 245/40-17 or 255's?

We ran the 245/40/17. Have not tried the 255/40/17.

The 255's have not really been readily available.

As for sway bars I prefer Whiteline

I'm trying 255 RE71R's. Might be willing to let a more seasoned driver have a go with them...

Thanks for the input everyone! I remember for Dunlops 255 were preffered whereas 245 for RS3's. Might be too early to tell which works better on RE71R's

Reconsidered my plans.. may as well leave the car as is for now. Until I can fit coilovers and the alignment to go with them, any bars I buy now will be wasted money.
The only other option is to spend money on power...

Ahh well, another season of gaining experience I guess!

I'm hoping to confirm this. Your post is the only reference to the 5ad spoiler and its legality. Anyone know if there's documentation to back that up. My local club wouldn't hesitate to let me stay in CS, but I might compete at the Canadian Nationals and I want to be certain I classify properly.

If it's not legal, what does that do to my classing? Best I can tell it wouldn't be legal in STX either.

The 245/40 RE71R is the hot tire and size at the moment. It's what I'm running and the last three local events I've finished no lower than 2nd overall pax.

Who has run 255? 245 was definitely the safe bet early in the game, but I haven't actually heard much on the 255. 245 may still be the best option, just not sure it's actually between compared yet. I may also be unaware, and it has.

1. pads that I can daily looking a winmax w3/w4, project mu hc+800 one of those and motul rbf 600 fluid.
2. 17x9 +35 wheels and 245/40-17 tires, rs3's probably.
3. Adjustable front sway bar. whiteline? strano?(not adjustable?) hotchiks? suggestions? can the endlinks be spherical type?
4. something to dial out some camber in the rear, options?

I think that is most of it. Suggestions?
It's going to be my first season so I guess I am shooting for local events and getting seat time.
The pad setup I have is winmax w4front/w4rear. but i was recommended to go to a w4front/w3rear for better cold use. as the rears dont get "too hot" for autox. If i am in the wrong for this thinking please feel free to correct me. On another front I doubt it but is that hotchkis x brace/half cage thing legal?
