Good helmet that won't break bank

What helmets do you folks use for autox or hpde? I'm just shopping around for helmets right now but just wanted to get an idea of what everyone else is wearing. I'm also asking since people tend to have really random, but incredibly useful information. thanks!

I use the Simpson Voyager. Nice, big visor. Wasn't particularly expensive. Venting could be better, but you'd have to spend more money to get significantly better venting.

Not in a car--on my Ducati--but a Shoei rf1200 in matt black. Shoei's fit me the best.

I would get a decent helmet. It isn't something worth going cheap, but it doesn't need to be carbon fiber and break the bank with a million features. If you plan on wearing your helmet for many hours you may want something that is not only strong to protect you, but that is also light and comfortable, so you don't get as fatigued. As much as I wanted to get an AGV helmet because they are Italian, the helmets don't fit my head well at all. Go try on helmets and find the brand that fits best then check out their options.

I really don't know if helmets for cars are dramatically different, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

If tracking just make sure that the helmet conforms to all of the track/event rules. All helmets do not.

I got an HJC AR10 2. Mostly because it has removable padding. And after 2 years I haven't taken them out to wash haha

I like the visor and drive with it down though most people leave it up. I don't like the wind in my eyes.

Not sure how different brands run in overall size, but I have to adjust my seat just right to avoid hitting the headliner and I'm only 5'10".

Still I am happy with the helmet would buy again.

Oh yea, its $300

I have a Simpson Vudo and a Simpson Shark, which are probably beyond what you want to spend. Look into a super bandit or a voyager evolution. Regardless of brand, make sure you get a Snell rated helmet and not a DOT M rated one, a lot of tracks don't allow DOT M rated. Get the best you can afford. Buy the latest Snell rating you can afford, that way it will last longer before going out of date. My Shark is a 2010, and the Vudo is a 2015.

Stick with well known brands, Simpson, Bell, Impact, Arai. Don't go with junk.

I have an older Simpson Voyager with amber shield. Highly recommend getting an amber shield with whatever helmet for better contrast, really help you to see clearer at speed. HJC AR10 would be what I would want to go to next if I go back to track, just use the Voyager for karting now. Just make sure to try all different brands because they do not fit on the head the same, just like shoes. You generally find the brand that best fits your ergonomics and stick with it, which is why it's important to take the time upfront to see what fits you best. You don't so much pick a brand as find which brand actually fits you best, its all down to ergonomics really, last thing you want is a not well fitting helmet on you head for any length of time - it will just get worse the longer you wear it and will cause you problems or even injury.

Yeah, this. I went to a local race shop to try on helmets before I bought mine. It took a not insignificant amount of time to find a proper fitting one.
