I honestly love this motor, and I think it would be a great swap candidate because it's on par with the Cosworth YB, they are a dime a dozen, and the tuning potential is near limitless! My favorite version of this engine was the 405hp variant found in the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII FQ400.

Yeah, because that would be street friendly...

I do like the idea of using an F1 motor though. Personally, I would detune the motor to around 500-600hp and have it redline at 8,000-9,000rpm.

For how much though? Im guessing that would be around the GTR price range. Well, as long as they slap in a SC with the version, i'll be happy to empty my pockets out.

If this car had this engine, i'd name the car "chop suey".

$55k. It'll have the performance to rival a lot of other super-cars on the market, and it should be super fun to drive.

No, $55k would be a reasonable MSRP if Toyota ever did produce a GT86 with the 2UR-GSE engine and manual transmission.

I dont think that it'll be the cheap. I mean how much is an IS-F? And considering that the gt86 is in demand toyota would bump-up the price, specially with a whole new powerplant. im pretty sure it'll be GTR pricetag and they'd release it as a lexus brand.

IS-F's are about $62k. So, you might be right: a GT86 with a 2UR-GSE might be priced to compete with the GT-R. I doubt Toyota will ever produce such a car, but we all can dream, right?

I got it! While the Cosworth YB is a fairly exotic and expensive engine with tough to find components, Ford did employ another high performance I4: Ford 1.6l Kent Engine (aka. Lotus Twin Cam). This particular engine has been used since 1962 in a number of high performance vehicles including Caterham Super Sevens and Formula Fords. The best part is that you can still purchase Kent 1.6l blocks, internals, and performance components from a number of places!

I think the CAN bus on this engine is secured/encrypted and Toyota doesn't release the specs to outsiders. Maybe someone else can chime in with details? Kinda sucks because this is the motor I'd buy to drop-in. My buddy works at Lexus and I had him trying to track down a motor but he said you have to buy it in pieces and assemble it. He wasn't able to find a crate motor option.

Jaguar AJ126 -- 3.0l Supercharged V6 that puts out 375hp @6,500 rpm and 340 lb-ft of torque @ 3,500-5,000 rpm. I believe this engine is near perfect for the FR-S/BRZ because of its small displacement, its high relative power output, and the song it sings when the throttle is wide open.

Holy smokes, that does sound good. V10's are typically the best sounding and an inline 5 is essentially half a V10 so maybe there's something to it?
