I'd have to dig it up again, but that sounds right. The theory, iirc, was to get the wing up into clean air to get more consistent downforce. Where similar setups mounted the wing on the front bumper, but then were subject to other car air currents, ground effect, and fussing with the overall aerodynamic flow over the entire car.

I remember being surprised it didn't catch on more.

Doesn稚 make it any less horrid-looking. Would you ever do that to your ride?

If it was a dedicated track car built for TA yes.

Look at the Superbird's rear wing for example.

Is it"race inspired" if it's on a literal dedicated track car? Additionaly, calling it a "cosmetic enhancement" is also incorrect since it was added to the car for function. It just happens to also be visible

Nope, then it is functional. IE not just cosmetic.

You know that comment was in reference to the OP right? Not the front wing car.
OP specifically said they wanted a big ass wing for looks.

OP may as well get on the J. C. Whitney site to order one, along with one of them fart cannon mufflers to bolt onto his car also.

You replied to a comment about the front wing, so no I didn't realize that. My bad

And look at how many of those Superbirds and Daytonas sat for years on the dealer lots, unsold. There was a reason for that, and price DEFINITELY was not it.

the main reason that my pickup truck does not have a superbird replica wing on the back right now is specifically because my garage is too short to allow for the correct scale.

if i could find a logical reason to put a front spoiler like that on my street-driven car, i absolutely would.
