Tofu pad Thai and lemongrass chicken with peanut sauce.

Breakfast was leftover desert. Sticky rice in coconut milk with mango.

Tonight I made nikujaga for the first time. In fact, I've never actually had it before so I'm not sure if the flavor profile was correct.

But, it tasted delicious.

Ingredients: shaved prime rib-eye, 3 yukon gold taters, one small onion (I thought I had 3 usable ones but two had unknowingly gone bad), a 7oz pack of shirataki noodles, and some rough-chopped green onion. For the broth I made my own dashi this time. Instead of using hondashi powder/balls, I bought fresh dry dashi kelp and "cold brewed" it over night in a container with about two cups of water in the fridge (about 12 hrs), then discarded the saturated kelp leaves. The remainder of the liquid was a mix of mirin, cooking sake, soy sauce, and then a tbsp of sugar (I used a brownish one since it's all I have).

I also went to a Daiso and bought an otoshibuta. Apparently it's a japanese simmering tool that you use to help circulate the stew/broth/veggies without needing to use a spoon, which would potentially break apart the veggies, and also prevents some evaporation.

Went on a long cruise drive today through the forests/"mountain" and then on highway 1 from Pescadero to pillar point harbor (I believe that's the name) near half moon bay.

Got this calamari and chips. So good.

Yeah calamari is my favorite of the X and chips. But it HAS to have the mini octopi otherwise it's no good.
