Lol, risking a 60k engine and custom supercharger by running it without an air filter. Real smart.

That was the first think I noticed. I guess if you want people to see your supercharger, you show them the compressor vanes.

FYI the guy that bought my Cayman (with it's broken engine) plans to install a K24 with a turbo.

I guess? Guy isn't local - few states over, but I do talk to him from time to time. He had an injury over the winter, so I don't believe he's really started anything yet.

Imo... a cayman gt4. I prefer them over every gt3 because, imo, they drive so much better. If you really want a car engineered to fix the worst engine placement ever then I prefer the 964 RS America. In my opinion its the best air cooled Porsche. Yeah lots will say the 993 but screw that ugly ass thing. Id buy a base 996 over one of those. Or basically any other 911. Maybe they touched me inappropriately as a child, dunno.

For gt3 life.. eh.. I dont care enough for any of them (up to 991.1 anyways) to even pick a "favorite".

Or just buy a Camaro ZL1 1LE and beat all GT3s on the track and have a more fun car to drive. Blasphemy I know...

Why do people always say it is the worst placement? It seems to do pretty well, while accommodating four occupants. It also does pretty well on a track considering the power and torque. For instance, the 992 GT3 has 502hp and 346tq and ran the Nurburgring in 6:55, and the Camaro ZL1 1LE has 650hp and 650tq, so almost double the torque, and it ran a 7:16. It might not be an apples to apples comparison or repeatable on all tracks, but just saying. I know older GT3s ran slower times than the Camaro, but again, the GT3 does well with what it has. I don’t know if the NA engine wins in longevity too with less heat management issues. I feel like it would. Camaro is a lot cheaper too, but is a $25k car too.

There is something to be said and enjoyed about many different types of performance engines, and a supercharged 6.2L V8 has its perks, but the GT3’s engine is fairly unique. The F20C or Voodoo or something equally as exotic is more interesting to me. To each their own.

Looking at the drive train, and it doesn’t look all too different than other drive trains, except the engine is in the rear over the primary drive wheels (a good thing), and the masses seem somewhat balanced over the rear wheels with a dense weight under a short lever in the rear and diffuse weight under a long lever in front of the rear wheels. Obviously, it isn’t perfectly balanced over the rear wheels, or there would be no weight on the front wheels, but the point is the weight distribution seems good for something that can seat four occupants as well as the 911 does. Obviously, the Cayman has less polar inertia, but it also doesn’t seat four occupants. A GT3 with a mid mounted engine would be cool too.

Nothing comes off a corner like a 911. Once you learn the handling characteristics that are unique in almost every way, they are amazing. You get something like an analog 996 GT2 and you'd better have your life insurance paid up though

Symmetrical AWD. Porsche too. The STI did pretty well for its engine placement. Is the STI also one of the worst ever?

I suppose Porsche could move the engine forward by widening the rear and making a setup similar to the GTR’s where the axle is not symmetric and runs through the oil pan, but do they need to? No. And would that rob the rear passengers of space? Probably.

Remember Danny Ongais? AkA Danny On-the-gas. Dude could flat DRIVE the 9xx cars from the late 70s to early 80s. They were pretty violent cars - widow makers is not an exaggeration.

Rear engine lets you dive inside of another car on entrance and then out accelerate them on exit. On the street, when corners are blind, then you can slow down more for entrance and rocket out for exit. Time trial on a track, mid is probably better overall.

Yep. Danny Ongas. People were blown away that a drag racer could actually turn corners
