I added 6 quarts of oil by mistake
So I did my oil change this morning and by mistake I added 6 quarts of oil instead of the 5.8. I checked the dip stick and the oil level was perfect on the 2 point of the dipstick but it had a line of oil on the side just above the 2 point, I was wondering if it’s safe to drive with 6 quarts of oil? Has anyone done this mistake before?

If youre always at redline, you may have oil going places it shouldnt. But if its a "daily", itll be fine. The bottom notch or mark on a dipstick is COLD fill, like 40-60*F. When you check your oil HOT, 250*F+, it should be at the top mark.

High mark is "full". Low mark is 1 liter (1.1 qt) short of "full". Difference between hot and cold won't be anything like the difference between the low and high marks!

I do not pay attention to much in the way of Diesel technology. So one day. like in only the last year, I saw a reference to Diesel exhaust fluid and thought someone must be having fun at my expense. Turns out Google and the automotive industry are in on the joke.
