Looking for quiet tire with occasional canyon runs

Hi,
I'm looking for a new tire, 245/40r17 for my daily. No track use, I have separate wheels for that. I'm looking for something that won't add to the already loud interior volume. I'm aware most of the road noise is due to the lack of sound deadening. I'm also aware that there is no perfect tire that meets my requirements in the thread title, but any suggestions?

What category? Presumably not 200tw Extreme Perf..

Go to Tire Rack and look at tire tests and customer survey results. You can sort based on road noise. Here are Max Performance Summer tires in 245/40-17

I just wish they would give an absolute number for tire noise, instead of a 1-10 ratings. I want to know how much louder a 4s is vs a 4 vs a a/s4, for example.

Falken FK510 is my choice for minimal tread noise.

Have Firestone Indy 500 in the stock size. Much quieter than the Michelin Pilot Super Sports I had on before.

My vote is on the FK510s also. Its a tame summer tire with very average stat numbers. But they are quiet.

Can anyone comment on the predictability at the limit of the FK510?
I’m looking for a tire between the Primacy HP and the PS4S. While both tires have extremely different grip levels, they both share the fantastic predictability of grip at the limit. I want a tire that’s about midway between the two on grip but is predictable like they are. I’ve heard good things about the falken and it seems like it may fit the bill if the predictability at the limit is there.

I can say with mild experience that the FK510 breaks slowly. It feels like a soft sidewall tire that you can feel give gradually. The only other tire Ive pushed on is a Conti EC-DW, the old Extreme Sport. That tire snapped loose. Especially in the wet.

The FK510 FEELS like an all-season tire with the grip dial turned up.

I got my PS4 (not S) installed today and can confirm the first thing I noticed was lower noise, but that's compared to pretty old tires I had before. Just saying that they're pretty quiet FWIW, just like that chart suggests

I'm still very new to my 86, but I'm very happy so far with the noise level of the General GMax RS

Aside from tires, you may want to cover your underbody too. When I covered my `13 FRS with JDM Aero covers & Verus covers (transmission tunnel, suspension/differential, & rear diffuser), road noise was reduced. I had PS4S tires.
