Tips to clean my engine bay from this... natural disaster

So, this morning I decided to check under the hood because my A/C doesn't seem to be running properly. It's fairly cold outside here during the morning, so I figured I'd just check if the compressor was running... Well, an image is worth a thousand words. This is what I found.

I already removed the bulk of it, but I have plenty of leaves and small branches stuck between engine parts and what not.

Never seen anything like this before. Am sure it can't get in naturally. Did any animal or bird set up a nest there?

I honestly have no idea what happened. I assume a squirrel made its nest in there... I changed my oil a couple of weeks ago and did not open the hood until this morning...

Definitely a nest. Probably a squirrel or chipmunk. I'd just pull out as much as you can and then give it a good spray down.

Garage
Had a squirrel drag a bunch of leaves into the engine space.
Had most of them stuffed under the intake manifold trying to set up housekeeping.

With the size of the sticks, are you sure it's not cobra chickens?
Might have been a gas powered wolverine too.

Possum. I had one in my back shed and it identical to that. Squirrels and chipmunks don't usually use so many stick. At least around here.

And for those that seem to imply he faked it
