Yes, they will be pulling out the engine and yes you can ask them to change the spark plugs for some chump change its a good idea to do it since the engine is out. A few of the locals have done it and some have even asked dealers to install new TOB, clutches, etc..

Yes they have to pull the engine. This is the time that you would want to have them do the plugs and throw out bearing/clutch. Clutch/TOB is only needed if they have not replaced the TOB with the upgraded one.

Ive heard some places wanted like $80 for labor and parts cost on top to do those items during the valve spring work. Ask for a quote. You could also buy the parts elsewhere and have them install them.

I have been reading this thread about the issues after the recall: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133095

Have you had the recall done locally and do you recommend a particular dealership?
I have been going to Toyota of Irving since I purchased the vehicle in 2013 (from Toyota of Dallas, horrid buying experience).

I had the recall scheduled with Toy of Irving, but they wanted to charge me full price for the spark plugs and serpentine belt so I told them to shove it -- have since spoken to the service manager and he said the adviser I spoke with was improperly informed. Not sure if I want to go with them or with another dealership. I love getting my car serviced at 5 Star Subaru, but they cannot do the recall on a Toyota and are not available until November.

Freeman Toyota is only doing the recall on Mondays and Wednesdays.

A few people have taken their car to Longo Toyota in Prosper and they have all positive experiences with zero issues. I know Prosper is far, but at least you have the peace of mind of getting it done right. You should join the Dallas FRS/BRZ/86 Group page on Facebook and you can find more information from other members.

I had mine done at Toyota of Mckinney and would NOT recommend them. Had a 2015 loaner, they didn't wash the car, they left fluid residue on the bumper from when the engine was pulled/put back in. They also left a few hoses not clamped, didn't make sure the nuts on the header were tight and they didn't fully connect the main engine harness to the car. This all resulted in a few weeks trying to figure out what they forgot and troubleshooting why the car wasn't running correctly.

We’ve done about 7 at Toyota of Rockwall. I haven’t heard of any issues from our customers. The two master techs we have doing the recalls both work on their own project race cars. Rockwall is a bit of a drive for some people, but I have had 2 86s and have never had an issue with them servicing my cars.

I live in Dallas, work in Irving. I have an appointment at Freeman Toyota for 3/18. Still haven't decided if I am going to go through with it. Rockwall is a bit of a drive for me

Went to Freeman a few weeks ago. At 400ish miles it started knocking today on my way home from the airport. Left them a message that they need to come get it.

FYI - tow truck guy said the mechanic at Freeman Toyota was test driving one after the recall and it caught on fire at the light before he was able to get back to the dealership. Richland Hills PD called it in.

Hopefully yours doesn't follow the same fate. Good amount of issues are coming up from this recall. I don't know if it is the techs or the instruction manual. Doesn't help that most techs are getting paid half time on warranty work.

Might start shopping around for insurance as my expenses are getting ridiculous. Does anyone have any agents to suggest?

Anyone in dfw area need stock parts? I was doing timing cover and of course tab broke off block so just decided to start my ls or tesla swap now by pulling motor and everything fa 20 related. Car is 2014 brz that ran fine with manual trans and 60k miles. All stock. So I have airbox, exhaust, everything on motor, trans etc. If I had a new or used right side of block the motor would be good too. Or someone that can weld cast aluminum.

Got in an accident recently. Insurance company calling it a total loss.

Worth it to part out?

2013 FRS 150k miles. Everything is in tact except for the driver side front quarter. and the suspension pieces attached to that corner.

No air bag deployed. No fluids leaking. Engine is still running.

Looking at liability only if I can rebuild. So planning to sell and buy a new 2022 when it come out instead.
