Just before my first belt failure, it would intermittently squeak especially while cold.

Hopefully a belt swap fixes it, if not then other suspect things would be alignment or the tensioner

Did the steel pulley give you problems?
Here in phx the thing retained heat moreso than plastic
Belt runs cooler with less steel to run over, plastic also seemed to allow belts to last longer, indeed possibly at the expense of the pulley life, but I rather get in there less often and change both, as they say ymmv

Did anyone figure out the problem? I've replaced my belt every 3 months (Gates) due to squealing. The most recent time we went with a smaller belt and figured if this one squeals it could be the tensioner. Well sure enough 3 months later it is squealing.

Any help would be appreciated, I realize this is an old thread.

Thanks

Try Johnsons Baby Powder.
Sprinkle onto both sides of the belt while idling with the aircon off.
Repeat every few weeks as necessary.

Works for me, and I've been doing it for about a year now.
Just makes a bit of a mess - looks like I spilt my cocain stash under the hood.

I have the same issue - Vortech Supercharged, and I have a squeak from the belt area that comes and goes, sometimes it's at idle, sometimes it's at 2.5 - 3k. I changed it last year, squeak went away. Been getting worse now all spring.
I've only used the Gates Blue K060975RB since I went FI two years ago.

At $50 - $60, I don't want to have to replace a belt each year, but it DOES seem to be the cause - the sound corresponds to the belt making a full revolution on the pulleys.

Any other belts I should look at? If I am going to replace it once a year, any cheaper / still quality alternatives?

Thanks!

I am in for the master answer. I get random squeaking, sometimes at idle, sometimes under load, sometimes it goes away when the accel is released... starting to piss me off just like the rest of you.

Here's your solution. I said so a year ago, and I say so again.
If you can't get Johnsons Baby Powder where you are, then any fine talcum powder will work well.

I have the same issue with an HKS supercharger. Happened from day 1 with the replacement unit I installed this year.

Mine starts to squeak at approx 3000 RPM and up when the engine is cold. Even on a hot day this happens but it stops after I run the engine for a few minutes.

I was concerned it was the belt or one of the pulleys but am pretty sure it is inside the blower. My guess is there is a tight fitting bearing or internal rollers that get quiet when things expand due to heat.

I am curious to try the baby powder but sounds way too messy. Definitely DO NOT use silicone spray unless you want your belt to slip.

My belt is squeaking as welll, mostly when cold.
If I'm running V2 with stock pulley (I believe) will the Bando 6PK2475 work on that as well? I bought the car with Vortech SC already on there and not sure what size pulley. Best way to measure?
BTW, they sprayed engine dressing when they sold the car and it got on the belts.. I don't think that helped and possibly contributed to this.

Pretty sure the v2 uses the same length belt. Assuming the pulleys are the same. The stock pulley on these cars is 3.48"

FWIW ever since I swapped to a goodyear gatorback belt (now continental I believe) I have had zero belt issues. No more squeaks/slipping. YMMV but its worth a shot if you want to try something different

The part number on the belt is not what you need, this is just a stock photo

V2, after last track day, started faint but audible squeak when cold and upto 3k rpm (or droned out by exhaust beyond this). I spray water on the belt before i drive off to get rid of embarrassing sound until it gets fully warmed up.

I'm getting annoyed with this supercharger, first SC bearing failure at track (v3), followed by v2 oil return leak in the next year (still pending to be fixed), now with this squeak in 2016. Car still has under 14k miles and probably well under 7k miles with SC for god sakes..

I just realized I said I had a V2.. I meant V3.. which I suppose makes no difference with the belt squeaking. I bought the car with the squeak knowing that this was something I would contend with. I'm not planning on doing a lot of tracking in any case.

I suppose I can try a couple different belts and see what lasts longer before squeaking. Thinking of getting any possible residue off the belt with soap and water.. or perhaps something else?
I need to measure my pulley so i know whats on there.
