Short throw shifter + extension

Has anyone tried a short throw shifter like kartboy with an extension to get the shifter taller? How'd it work out? Something like the akg shifters for BMWs would be pretty sweet.

I've actually toyed with the idea of making an AKG shifter work with my FRS. I have installed many of them in BMWs and absolutely love them. Right now, in my shop car, I'm running a TRD quick shifter, MTEC springs and the Killer B shifter extension.

The shifter feeling is fantastic. You get the short shifts from the TRD, and the leverage from the taller handle, reduces the notchy feeling. Having the shifter closer to the steering wheel is great as well.

If you've got deep pockets this thing looks like exactly what you want based on the 1 youtube video I found.

Not worth 2 sets of tires imo but if you've got deep pockets this thing looks like exactly what you want based on the 1 youtube video I found.

It's absolutely worth the money spent on it...CAE Ultra Shifter is an amazing piece, way better than stock shifter...not sure there is anything that can come close to it. All the BMW and Porsche guys say it's the best shifter made you can get...that the AKG is okay, but the CAE is the best...period. Love mine!

Bolt-in installation that replaces these factory parts (actually loose about 2lbs mass changing over to the CAE Ultra Shifter...so weight loss side benefit):

Here's someone else with a CAE Ultra Shifter tracking their 86:

@Vracer111

I shouldn't have editorialized, my post is amended now.

I'm sure the cae unit is nice, but I'm not that baller.
@The Racers Line

How is the overall throw, similar to stock, longer, shorter?

Well I can't comment how the throw is with the stock shifter and extension, but with the TRD short shifter and shifter extension, the throw is still shorter then stock, and shifting effort is decreased.

I have an FLP shifter in the Type-R which is basically what you are talking about. It's a very high shifter with a short shifter pivot/ball length so it gets about stock throws but right next to the steering wheel.
