Anybody catch this? Stout Racing SCCA Scion FR-S w/ TRD Supercharger at SEMA

Thank you SEMA

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...sema-show.html

Per SCCA guidelines TRD supercharger will actually be produced and made available for the public.

Stout Racing World Challenge Scion FR-S Revealed: 2012 SEMA Show

The Stout Racing Scion FR-S, which will compete in the SCCA World Challenge series next year, was unveiled today at the 2012 SEMA Show.

Before we even get to the race car though, there’s some other big news that’s sure to please FR-S owners everywhere. Stout Racing has teamed up with TRD to produce a supercharger which will be made available to the public – which means all those Scion FR-S owners out there looking for more power, you’re going to get it. No details on the supercharger were released yet, but given the guidelines for the FR-S to compete with a supercharger, TRD will have to offer it for sale.

As for the race car itself, it will be driven by Robert Stout and will compete in the GTS class next season and will premiere at the first event on the Streets of St. Petersburg, March 2013.

For aero, Stout Racing chose to go with Vertex for its carbon fiber front splitter, pinned removable doors, rear-wing uprights, and custom tow hooks. Vertex was also in charge of fabricating the roll cage and rear fire wall.

As mentioned, the 2.0-liter engine will benefit from a TRD supercharger but will also be reinforced with pistons from JE. It’ll compete on 18-inch Volk Racing TE37 SL Black Edition wheels with Pirelli P-Zero rubber. Braking performance has been upgraded with a TRD big brake kit while the suspension has been overhauled with JRX and Vertex components.

I remember buying the tC in 2004 and had mega hype of the supercharger but had to wait 3 whole years before it ever was released. and then it released and only lasted 1 year before it became kaput because of bad oil seals.

never again TRD. never

This might be different because the competition states the supercharger must be available to the public

Well, that explains how they are going to run the car in the GTS class. They have to make the supercharger available to the public to homologate it for racing. It will be expensive and there is no guarantee that it will add much power in the stock configuration. However, the parts will be there and they will be considered factory so it should not adversely affect your warranty if it is dealer installed.

Regardless of what it ends up being, as has already been stated, it's going to be a little pricy. And it's going to be conservative in the power department.
My past experience with anything TRD in the US is they don't move very fast AT ALL.

The first event in the Pirelli World Challenge is the streets of St. Petersburg on March 22nd. If they want to be able to run they need it available. I don't see them entering the series in the middle so it is either this year or wait until next year.

It would not make sense to announce it now if they were not going to compete until next year.

As far as power to qualify for the GT class the horsepower range is 425 - 525 bhp so they will probably have to do internals for reliability even though we know the motor will handle it without them....so far.

If they can get it to say 250WHP and I can keep all my warranties I would be happy.

Um, I had a S/C in my 2007 tC. Was one of the most reliable parts in my car, never had a problem with any seals, and the reports of other owners will likely back it up. It was available from 2005 through 2007, so two years. Your experience is the exception here.

Watching...although I am sure it will be more than I can justify spending.
