Also, that sounds like shit.

He wasn’t saying that the H6 in the boxster/cayman were the best sounding engine ever; just that it sounded better in than the 4 that replaced it. Safe to say that none of the cars being discussed are getting a V10 or V12.

I agree. nothing sounds BETTER adding a turbo, much less subtracting 2 cylinders and adding a turbo, but H6s are not a desirable engine note.

Would literally buy this in a heartbeat.

LOL, ever heard a Cayman H6 at full scream, especially with a decent exhaust? Sounds like a mofo racecar my dude.

Porsche flat 6s are actually legendary for their sound. Make most I6s and V6s sound like dogshit by comparison, but sound preference is subjective. Comparing them to V10s and V12s is a bit cheeky - the original comparison was with a H4.

A turbo H4.
Yep. There’s more than a handful I’d prefer, thanks.

Less and less concerned with sound as I get older. One thing my tuned frs is good for is dusting off fart canned pieces of shit driven by teenaged ricers.

You prefer the engine/exhaust note of a turbo H4 to a NA H6? Well, that just goes to show how subjective preferences are.

I don't think that preference is very widespread, however. Certainly not with the turbo H4s in the 718. Sales dropped notably when they switched to H4 only for the 718, so much so they had to quickly bring back H6 options (GT4, Boxster Spyder, GTS) to try and lure the Porsche fanatics back.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what the FA24D sounds like. I do hope they have improved the engine note, and haven't resorted to any artificial 'enhancement' through the speakers. Anyone know?

I'm the opposite, I couldn't care less about racing teenagers in riced out shit boxes.

For me the driving experience I'm having is more important than what anyone else is doing, and that includes a nice (ideally NA) engine and exhaust note. Not obnoxious or farty, just smooth and mechanical like old racecars.

This is manna from heaven:

And people wonder why I want a higher pitched exhaust sound over some deep rumble shit. I hate the "subi rumble", it sounds like dog.

I don't know how it is in Australia, but having racecar levels of sound on your car around here would make everyone hate you, plus, I don't think I could do it on a daily car no matter how much I love it, it will wear you down.

It has its own character and is fine in an AWD rally car. I just don't think it is suited to a RWD coupe.

Oh yes, and modded cars are *very* heavily policed over here. Some guys still try it on and are in a never ending battle to evade the police.

The best compromise is a valved exhaust so you can choose to open the taps and enjoy the full roar on a quiet road, or put it into quieter civilised mode for around town. Best of both worlds.

If they do a special souped up version of the new GR 86 it may be a ‘GRMN’ but I would not expect any more power. Probably be another ‘handling’ upgrade so suspension, brakes and tyres.

The previous GRMN 86 came with extra power so its a possibility. Of course it was pretty much double the cost of a regular 86 too. I think Toyota was pulling a Subaru with an overpriced factory works limited edition.

Sound is one of the reasons I love cars, one of the main reasons why I had a Shelby, that Voodoo just sounds sick at full crank.

The FA20 was never an inspiring sound, even when compared to other 4 bangers, but frankly it wasn't off putting. I sorta like the rumble, despite it being more of a function of the exhaust manifold, gives the car some character.

Also, I'm not into loud cars, and I have zero tolerance for drone.

Not even the rally cars sound like the crap people do on the roads though. And imo, the anti-lag is what makes the rally cars sound awesome, those on board videos are insane.

Happy Thanksgiving mate, fully agree with you. It was a trip through memory lane having seen many of those cars compete, mostly while living in Europe. I'm chuffed.
