First Post Break-In Maintenance? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

When should I do my first post-breaking in maintenance? I looked in the maintenance and warranty booklet but couldn't find anything about it.

Do I just proceed with the oil change at 3,750? Or should I do something else. My first 5 services on my car are 100% free, so. Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

I have been told (many times over the years) that I go a little too far with my PM rituals, but you can't keep your oil too fresh and clean.

wait till manufacturers suggested 5k because they have assembly additives in the fluids to ensure proper break ins, changing it too early may/may not affect the break-in. just patience, you will be all good

I plan on changing the oil at 1000 miles, immediately after the break in period. That should get any leftovers out of the oil.

Maybe because ppl maintaining their cars for 300K isn't that great for the bottom line?

I figure at least for the initial service go the full duration mainly because of the assembly additives and making sure its all lubed. Then after the first service, early fluid changes are fine

My dealership gave me 3k, 7.5k, 15k, and 22.5k for free so 3k was my first.

The local dealership suggested I wait until 3K, and said 2K if I really wanted to go early, but based on their experience, they felt that changing it any earlier than that would not be advised.

I use a schedule I got from a friend who's run several cars to very high miles since new. First change at 1k, 2nd at 5k, and then every 5k after that. This not only keeps the oil changes in a safe pattern but its also one that is easy to remember especially if you have multiple car. If its at a 5 or a 0, its due. I'm doing my 1k oil change this weekend.
