So in February of 2011 I sold my 2004 Mazda RX-8, and had been on the lookout for a new ride ever since. Being a die-hard Honda fan of the EM1/DC2 era, I was hoping for something like the new Civic Si or the ILX to fit the bill. No luck. I was a couple months away from pulling the trigger on a new VW GTI, when I decided to look into the 86. I didn't know at the time that it was coming to us as the FR-S, and my knowledge of it was limited to a few laps in GT5. The more I read about it, the more I was getting hooked. It was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Small, lightweight, nimble, simple and really good looking. The decision was made. The wait was going to suck.

After going through a terrible dealer experience here in town, I emailed around and received a quick reply from Alan Hillman at Leith Toyota of Raleigh, NC. I was promised no mark-ups, and the ability to order it with zero options. I ordered on June 1st, and received it on August 10th about 3 weeks before the estimated date Alan gave me. The only bad thing about the purchase was that the weather was garbage the day I picked it up.

I would've made them slap a GPS in there, but that's just me!
Looks sweet!

I wouldn't want to polish a brand new car and put opti-coat on it. Just sounds odd to me.

Need more pics!

Ha, thanks! I don't want a GPS, although I will be upgrading the head unit at some point. More pics will come as I get things done, and when the weather is better!

I'll be having my car opti-guarded soon, too. When the car is new is the best time to do it; the paint requires the least work to prep. Congrats, Matt -- the car looks gorgeous!

Was nice and sunny yesterday, so decided to get my rebadge on. The front badge is a bitch to get out. I had the adhesive behind it completely detached from the bumper but the pegs just wouldn't give. Finally snapped it out, but be careful and patient, it would be very easy to chip or scratch the paint. Rears came off with no trouble at all. Thankfully, I got them all off cleanly with no marring or chipping.

I recommend using braided fishing line to saw through the adhesive. I had 65 pound braided line, and it had no issues. Dental floss was snapping on me, even after heating the adhesive.

Pics!

Installed my GT86/BRZ spoiler on to my FR-S today. Better pictures coming next week when the detail happens.

Got my car detailed and coated with HD Nitro-seal. I love the finish the Nitro-seal provides!

For the full write-up on my detailing experience check out my thread in the Cosmetic Maintenance forums.

Thanks! I'm going to concentrate on mostly cosmetic mods until the performance market has had a chance to get going.

I would say my next three items will probably be a Modellista Shark Fin, JDM Clear Corners, and lighting upgrades all around.
