Not true. At least not until they became available used in quantities that made them cheaper.

That very well may be as far as new however overall current ownership appears to be much younger that the graph shows or else there's a shitload of very young looking 45 year olds driving around in em.

I have to say I’m the only “mature” guy in my area that I see in one. Everybody else driving is a kid. And I don’t even care haha. Honestly I don’t see many at all. Most of the time when I do it’s an FRS or 86. Very few BRZs, which suits me just fine too.

Current owners don't mean a thing. If you are buying one 5th hand you deserve what you get!
The point was that there are/were loads of ones owned by "older" people. In fact 80% were at one point.
Even this forum has a much larger "older" population than many would ever guess.

I don't buy the whole "young guys all beat on and don't take care of their cars" thing anyway. Many actually take better care than some older guys.

The majority I see in my area seem to be middle aged women!

Alas, the 3-door hot hatches are virtually gone now in favour of uglier but more practical 5-door versions because the 3-doors sold in low volumes. I think the only 3-door hatch still available new (certainly in Oz) is the Mini Cooper. I can’t ever see a boxy 5-door hatch as a “sportscar” however quick it is. Many of today’s 5-door hot hatches are quicker than dedicated RWD sports cars like the MX-5, 86, or 370Z, but the hatches are still an appliance first and foremost. I feel similarly about the ‘super-SUVs’ that are so fast. Impressive numbers, but just not proper sportscars. Too big, too heavy, you sit far too high and they lack the style and road presence of a coupe.

IMO the 3-door versions of fwd-based "hot hatches" look WAY worse, awkward a.f. Being fwd and having semi-OK power, they *need* the rear wheels shoved way aft to keep load on the front drive wheels. So they tend to have longish wheelbases. In 3-door "coupe" form they just end up looking ridiculous with all that space between the doors and the rear wheels, even with elongated doors. To me, unless somebody's gonna make a new dedicated 2-seater 3-door CRX, any 2+2 fwd "hot hatch" may as well be a 5-door.

Not quite like a CRX but the wheels aren’t pushed too far back and has 30% front/70% rear wheel split in sport mode.
