I had a second thought - set the ol boy up near a vaccination site and let the people in line throw used syringes (like darts) at him.

Someone I know told me yesterday they’re questioning why we’re being told we’ll still need to wear masks after getting the vaccine despite such high efficacy.

this seems advanced on the surface, but when one realizes that it's only following a pre-programmed routine because active processing is too taxing, it gets a lot less impressive
If by active processing you mean the ability to improvise or dynamically respond to the environment then they have done that. The major movements would have been preprogrammed, but the dynamic movements require continuous balance, adjustments and refinements. The nice thing about robots is that they are not constrained by their own body, so depending on distance and bandwidth, as it pertains to latency, there can be central processing at a large supercomputer, and the executions can be remote. The limits in response and smoothness will be balancing central/distancing processing versus local/body processing, which is very similar to the human body in how it moves with regard to the central nervous system--specifically, the interactions between the brain and spinal cord.

We don't need to watch the video and start shaking in our boots, but the rate of advances suggest we are not far away from.

1940-1960 - Computers are huge and basic.

1964 - Prototype modern computer

1976 - Apple I

1984 - Macintosh

1997 - Deep Blue supercomputer beats a grand master in chess.

2001 - iPod debut.

2007 - iPhone debut.

2009 - a chess engine running on a HTC mobile phone attains grandmaster level.

2011 - a super computer named Watson decisively beats Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter in Jeopardy.

2017 - AlphaGo beats the top Go champion

2019 - Google's Sycamore, a quantum computer, completes a task in 200 seconds at 53 qubits, which they claim would take a supercomputer 10,000 years.

2020 - China's quantum computer achieved a processing power of 76 qubits and was 10 billion times faster than Sycamore.

We could do the same type of thing for battery technology development, camera and other sensor development, neural network development, behavior and personality development, speech learning, object recognition, self-learning, etc. Computers and machines have exceeded parts of our abilities a long time ago, and they have exceeded the cognitive limitations of some animals, so I think it is a matter of a few decades--maybe less--until we see weak AI.

I think this is more about a need to wear masks until we reach a certain level of herd immunity through exposure and vaccines. Once the number of cases and deaths fall then we will lower restrictions and that will be the real test to how well the vaccine worked. It is likely the vaccine will be just as effective over the entire population as it was in the trials, but we can't have part of the population wearing masks and some not wearing masks until we get there. People may still be carriers, or rather said, people could still be capable of shedding the virus, so they could expose those who haven't been vaccinated, even if they were vaccinated, which is why it is necessary to wear masks until enough people are immune.

That sounds about how I was thinking about it. I didn’t go as in depth when I gave my response, but went along the same lines.

The weird thing is that the way this person brought it up was like it was more “they’re going to do this to us forever, so is the vaccine just a lie?” But at the same time they said they know how important other vaccines are and are fine with them.

Scientists say they invented a 10-second coronavirus test that’s 99% accurate

I hope this proves true and becomes available. It would have been nice 9 months ago.

Still no voices?

We didn't know anyone besides our little work group that picked up Covid back in March (Some very seriously ill) but are now hearing about associates and some friends getting this. We're losing the battle here locally...

No voices.

My step sister tested positive for COVID. My stepdad and mom visited her a few days before she lost a sense of taste and smell and got fever and malaise. They said they socially distanced and wore a mask, but I doubt it. They have been more open about visiting family. I’ve seen them once in the last year, but they have made the rounds in the family to see the grandchildren. There are several toddlers. I warned them. It is what it is. They are adults. It has been ten days without any symptoms on their end, so probably a close call. My stepdad smokes and my mom has been around second hand smoke all their lives and are both almost 65, so they should know better. The good thing is they are fairly healthy and active and young for their age with good genetics (family likes into their 90’s or 100’s).

I don't have an ethical issue with that but I'm wondering, given the country in which this article was published, if there might be legal ramifications.

It is basically a triage/disaster protocol. They are just following protocol orders from the medical director too, so it is on that person. They might do base consults too in these situations, but typically paramedics have the right to say when a patient expires. They probably just won’t transport PEA/asystole patients in situations where the chances are slim based on age, comorbidities, and the based on the story like if someone was down for 15 minutes without CPR and likely has an anoxic injury. I’m sure they will still transport pediatric patients, even if the odds are really poor. They might try to reroute bodies from unsecured scenes away from the ER. Suicides and ODs that are likely far gone might not get transported as much either. Sometimes we work people up for a while, but sometimes we call it in five minutes based on the situation, likelihood for survival, age/comorbidities, etc. They are just trying to free up space. These bodies tie up a lot of resources in the hospital for the code and for hours after to process the body with family, coroner, etc.

We're not doing sign-ups here, just closed events, but I'm scheduled for the 13th.

No voices here either. In fact, other than a sore shoulder, it was pretty much a non-event for me, which is unusual as I typically have some minor reaction to vaccines.
