DIY Changing vortech super charger pulleys on the car

Here's how I changed my vortech supercharger pulley while unit was still attach to car. Not using a impact gun stay tuned... making dinner and uploading pictures NOTE I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO VEHICLE, VORTECH BLOWER OR OTHER WISE EXTRA TUNING IS REQUIRED TO USE A SMALLER PULLEY

Tools needed
14mm wrench x2 one needs to be the bendy self ratcheting
10mm 1/4 inch socket
flat head screw driver
propane torch the hand held kind
BLUE I repeat BLUE locktite
oil filter removal pliers ( yes that sounds crazy)
Oh and a smaller vortech supercharger pulley in this case my 3.125"
and a tune you need a tune!! don't go bolt this on and "just see how it feels" on the stock pulley programing!

1) remove belt cover on ac condessor (driver side)
2)completely remove top charge pipe.
3)remove grey plastic cover on back of blower pulley with a flathead. (try not to damage black washer)
3) now ready to begin pulley swap

please let me know if I screwed something up in the DIY

^ bolt half seated. Note leave belt on unitil bolt is completely out then remove belt with 14mm wrench on the tensionor
Go back to vortech instructions if you forgot how.

^ note orientation of special washer on bolt. and the black washer that holds void warranty plastic cover over belt.

^ turn pulley till the "keyway""woodruff key" is facing up.. slide of pulley

^do not mess with the "keyway" "woodruff key"

^grab blue locktite

^apply to pulley bolt.

slide on new pulley take your time should slide on do not force you could jazz up the key way and then you screwed

Slowly and gingerly thread bolt in the blower shaft just hold the pulley

Install belt on pulley

Hold belt over pulley with pliers tighten down bolt to 25-30ftlbs per vortech.
Make 110% sure belt is fully seated around entire pulley assemblies
Reassembly belt covers and boost pipe
Note that you will have more room towards the new pulley to adjust orientation of boost pipe so it
Does not contact idler pulley

enjoy and please contact your local tuner! DO NOT REDLINE VEHICLE UNTIL TUNING IS COMPLETED

How much more boost are you seeing with the new 3.125" pulley and for reference, what was it at the same RPM with the 3.48"?

Take care

Dynosty just told me manifold is reading 10 on the 3.125. I'm ordering the 2.87 right now

So if 15 is target boost, the SC pulley is gonna have to be pretty small, eh? Have to start taking belt slip into consideration at that point.

The smallest pulley available is a 2.62. The next pulley up is the 2.87. I will be the third person in the US maybe the world with this pulley and it is about 12-12.5 psi. 15 psi dosent seem possible. You have to go to a 95.5in belt when you go to 2.87. If you want 15psi go turbo. And honestly I wouldn't shop forced induction kits by psi

Not shopping it on boost, just know that based off what I'm reading here and on the other forums, where I want to be power-wise is gonna be about 15lbs with the V3. I have one on the way and as I'm doing the install, I'll try to come up with some improvements in the plumbing department and see if I can come up with an 8-rib solution to circumvent some of the belt slip introduced with smaller pulleys. I'm coming from the euro import world and after stuffing 55AMG V8 Kompressor motors in Crossfires, 65 V12 BiTurbos in Es and doing full on drag builds with 996s, I got bored and am looking forward to getting more into the twisties and not just doing the mash and go. That's why I went with the SC vs turbo and why I picked up one of these vs going with another Benz or a Crossfire.

For kicks though, here is one of the V8 cars I built at PBIR a month ago after I went down there for a full trans build.
